[December 2022] I found this dram in this year's advent calendar...

...and TWA released a phenomenal Glenury 1973 in 2010 (WB18653) and this seems to be a sibling's cask bottled in 2011. Unfortunately, this is not as good as the 2010 release because of too dominating bitter wooden notes both in the later parts of the taste and the finish. Nonetheless, a fine dram from the past.
    • Nose
      92 92
The colour is deep copper, and the nose offers these interesting old rancio aromas one can find in very old cognac too - namely earthy notes (dunnage warehouse), mushrooms on a wet forest floor, over-ripe tropical fruits and the leather books of an ancient library. This is both very interesting to explore and entertaining to smell, after some oxidation the wooden notes grow stronger and dominate a little, unfortunately. So, hurry with your first sniff not to miss the best part of this nose's profile.
    • Taste
      90 90
The taste is multi-layered on tropical fruits, nuts, waxes, leather, manuka honey and more - but unfortunately, in the later layers the wooden tannins overpower all the other impressions. This dram should have been bottled some years earlier, to be honest. But you can fix this problem quite easily: Simply swallow the dram before it starts to turn too bitter.
    • Finish
      89 89
The initial mouthfeel is warming and coating without distracting moments. The finish is of medium length and dries out towards the end, now the tannins take their toll with dominating bitter impressions. Still this acceptable for a 37-year-old dram, but it would have been much better without these wooden notes. Water is not needed as it just flattens the dram without releasing new impressions.
