  1. Boletus did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

As a rule, I prefer rum from whisky casks to whisky from rum casks, as in my opinion these tend to curtail the aroma spectrum of the malt rather than expand it and also allow the alcoholic base to stand out more. Here, however, the high alcohol content is really well integrated and the influence of rum can also be perceived. A successful young malt, even if it could be a bit more mature and complex for my taste.
    • Nose
Somewhat restrained start, the peat smoke peppered with maritime notes forms a dense sediment in the glass, sun-bleached mussel shells, dried seaweed, very little iodine, after a few minutes the malt thaws, plantains fried in butter with a pinch of cinnamon and brown sugar, pineapple stalk, a hint of aniseed, mild toasted wood and vanilla, even when breathing deeply, the grassy distillate is far from leaving an alcoholic impression
    • Taste
Much more turbulent than the smell suggests, but not brute, minerally chalky, distinctly smoky with lots of ash and hints of iodine and algae, grilled mussel meat, the mouthfeel is creamy with occasional citric tingling moments without drifting into alcohol, the grassy barley remains quite supple despite its youth, the rum cask comes through quite well, a Jamaican greeting rings out with sour pineapple and banana, vanilla oak with the tiny green tinge of a debarked shoot
    • Finish
Unexpectedly short length, the peat smoke lingers a little in the well-oiled mouth cavity with shell limestone, banana and dried pineapple are still present as well as the minimally resinous oak with its vanilla fumes, but it is more of a fading of the taste than a subsequent surge of aromas, ending slightly algaey with the aftertaste of butter biscuits and a memory of cinnamon
