The longest matured St. Magdalene ever bottled!
I'm in heaven. What else can I say here? I am grateful to Gordon & MachPhail for great cask management and willingness to age this cask for almost 40 years. You notice how the distillate has developed over the years and you can still recognize the distillery character.

      93 93
Intense notes of grease, grasses and citrus fruits. You directly arrive at St. Magdalene. The grease quickly turns into earthy flavours. An orchard in autumn. The leaves are on the ground, it has been raining heavily. Compote is being made from the garden fruits. A sucked-out vanilla bean was briefly in the compote. But really only very briefly. A slight minerality emerges and with it wax, some leather and lemon peel. Water brings out limescale and pastries.
    • Taste
      94 94
A strong entry with an emphasis on citrus, plus some white pepper. That's changing fast. Sweet honey notes arrive, along with hemp, hay and chamomile. From here it is a dance of the well-known fat and "gas station" aromas, in a strongly matured and therefore mild variant, the grass, the fruit and sweetness. Chain grease, lamp oil, wax, fresh grass, dried grass, herbal tea, citrus, apricot. The spicy and herbal side dominates when you add water.
    • Finish
      93 93
The finish then carries the whole thing home. It gets less and less of all the intense but smooth fruit flavors. The honey now becomes more like combs and empty honey jars. A beeswax candle that has just been extinguished. At the same time the minerality comes back and maybe a touch of metal. If you only take a very small sip, then it gets a slight nutty note. And when you add water, it gains warmth and length.
