Conclusions. Not impressed. This is not the style of peaty whisky I like. The spirits here are predominantly young, so the taste, unlike the aroma, is rather rough and not well-hewn, despite the finish in quarter casks. Mostly smoke and ash dominate. But this is clearly not enough for a good peaty whisky. At one time I was led by an abundance of very flattering statements about this release. Now I have one more confirmation that, unlike Islay, mainland smoked whisky needs significantly more aging. Grade 74.
    • Nose
Aroma: medium intense, moderately saturated. Needs aeration. Immediately gentle sweetish smoke combined with a hint of engine oil and burnt rubber. Light floral-perfumery motifs and spicy herbal and woody shades are in development, with a bias towards the smell of sawdust and bison. In addition, over time, associations with honey, sweet apples and citrus fruits arise. Simple, soft, pleasant.
    • Taste
Taste: very energetic, moderately oily, rather rough in contrast to the aroma. At first, strong bitter smoke, plenty of ash, rather sharp spices, moderate sweetness. After adaptation of the receptors, it softens somewhat, the smoke weakens, light shades of citrus and burnt jam appear, as well as strongly burnt sugar in combination with resinous motifs. At the end, a little salty, a little knit, dry and bitter. Easy and pretty tough.
    • Finish
Finish: moderately spicy, medium length with a long ash finish, slightly sweet, rather dry at the end with a slight bitterness.
