Oh, that's good. A NAS for then and now (the current bottlings) under 100 euros. That was something. Unfortunately, you can't find this quality anymore today and if you do, then maybe in a modern Glendronach single cask with 12-15 years for 250 euros.

This whisky can handle an incredible amount of water. Even when diluted to 30% alcohol, it doesn't break down.
    Impressive.
    • Nose

The nose is typical A'bunadh, i.e. brutal. But there is also a lot of quality, young sherry whisky from very good casks. I find a lot of dark chocolate and orange, a few raisins, some vanilla (hello Aberlour) and also dry leather.

The acidic notes that I find here are reminiscent of strawberry and cherry.
A beautiful blend of fruit, oak and distillate. Only now do I notice the malty aromas. I look for the malt in bad whiskys, here I didn't miss it at all, but I welcome it when I discover it.

Ten years ago this was probably a solid 88 point whisky, today it is a modern 90 point sherry malt to my nose.

There's no question about it: the high alcohol content affects even good cask bottlings when they're still so young. I think a small proportion of over 10 years old was used here with very good casks, but the majority is under 10 years old (from solid casks). A combination that always works because old and good casks fortunately dominate in a batch.

Here too, the aromas from the nose, a little more fruit from dark cherries, sweet dark chocolate with orange zest, a few raisins and dates.
The barrels were intense, but also good. Still, it needs water, if you just take a few leisurely sips and wash it down your mouth, you get a great dessert whisky with no off-flavors or flat tartaric acid.

First come the fruity sweet and dark sherry aromas, then the alcohol. The whole tongue dries out. Really good, but water is still necessary if you want to enjoy it.
Two drops of water: fruitier, still powerful. The oak doesn't become more intense, which is good.

I like it best when diluted to 45 percent. That's a dilution of a quarter (!) and this whisky becomes creamy!

You can dilute it further, but then it will of course be flat. However, it won't collapse or become thin sherry water.
