  1. hs305 scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

[February, 2022] What a methuselah of grain whisky, and I have to try it because I am still looking out for the first grain to break the 91 points barrier in my books...

...but this one is way too tired for a 90+ points score, sorry. The profile is as complex as such a long maturation should be but it is very weak so the aromas and flavours are both hard to identify and unimpressive to enjoy. Interesting to try a sample, but not worth to buy a bottle (in my honest opinion, only).
    • Nose
      88 88
The colour is old gold and the nose is very tired, after 56 years of sleep it refuses to wake up it seems. The profile is delicate and complex but it is hard to catch single impressions because it is both interwoven and shy. Even after a very long time of breathing it does not open up and gets bolder. This nose is not bad, but it is not great either.
    • Taste
      89 89
The taste is more impressive with a complex and layered structure which is intermingled and balanced. Very nice to taste, but it is worth the heavy bucks requested? Not according to my taste buds and I am glad I bought a sample only. By the way: My taste buds are too dull to identify single flavours out of this mix, so please refer to the supertasters (like Serge) for a detailed list of impressions.
    • Finish
      88 88
The initial mouthfeel is not as impressive as I expected with just a minor coating effect and I had many 40-45 years old Invergordon with a much better texture, to be honest. Accordingly the finish is rather short and adds neither new impressions nor distracting moments. I did not add any water to this anyway underpowered dram.
