I don't usually comment much on appearances, but the presentation of the bottles is certainly impressive. Unfortunately, my positive impressions end here. Yes, it's a very interesting experience. But is it worth repeating? I'm not sure. Especially with these dilution levels, I highly doubt it. Unfortunately, the whisky is left with only a faint esterity besides saltiness. I think it's even hard to call it whisky; more because of its youth than its aging process. I don't find it illogical that it's marketed as an oyster accompaniment, but at this price, my oysters will unfortunately be condemned to struggle alone. I understand the losses and costs are high, but there might be rational reasons why some things don't have a place in the industry! I'd rather just add a few drops of seawater to a young whisky than spend that much money. I'm definitely not convinced that it's a sensible venture, unfortunately.

    Price-performance ratio: Extremely low.
Would I buy it again?: Absolutely not at these prices! I might keep it as a "gimmick" if it were very cheap, but nothing more.

A rather raw nose; plum pits, green apple peels, and green pear sorbet. Leafy hops. Grape seed and grappa-like notes. Seashells, a scent reminiscent of synthetic marine-themed perfumes (Marvis's Aquatic Mint comes to mind). A subtle almond paste underneath. Maybe a little grapefruit and unripe orange juice. Very subtle porridge underneath. A vanilla note that becomes slightly more pronounced over time. Peach. It's noticeable, though not completely muted by the dilution. A rubbery, plastic armband-like scent. On the nose, I feel like I'm smelling a liquid that hasn't quite left the new-make phase behind. It's not exactly a worthless distillate, but it feels incomplete.
    • Taste
      67 67
The extreme saltiness on the palate surprises the drinker. The rubbery notes, green fruits, and seeds from the nose also join the palate, albeit more subtly. It feels too watery here. There's a hint of vanilla and almond cookie underneath, but much of the character is lost. There's also a slight umami side. Maybe a little nori. Too shallow. Medium-low sweetness. Low body, if not medium-low. Interesting, but too flat.
    • Finish
      64 64
The citrus notes are a bit more prominent in the finish, with hop extract, lemon and orange peel. Mandarin juice. Low intensity and a very short finish. Perhaps a hint of clove in the background. Maybe a slight esterity like red apple and a slight sweetness. This part, like the palate, or even beyond the palate, unfortunately has a shallowness.

The nose is quite sweet, gourmand vanilla, shortbread, some yellow fruits, plums, pears, bananas. But there is also a lot of sea salt, from Guerande, unrefined, coarse salt, foam, sea spray, sea breeze, it is intense. Guano and limestone, mud and shellfish. On the palate, it is disappointing, it feels like drinking sea water, there is a hint of vanilla, but that's it, the salt is still there, but with a slight bitterness, seaweed, sea urchins, light spices. The finish is very short, it collapses quickly, quite rocky, quartz, pebbles, sandstone, the bitterness is a little stronger, the impression of having gravel in the mouth.

The nose seemed good to me, you could really feel the influence of the Bourbon, and there was also a nice salty character. On the palate, however, it's a disaster, the aromas collapse and leave nothing but alcoholic seawater.

  3. Coldorak Plus scored this whisky 45 points Connoisseur

The palate is completely taken over by salt. The cask spent time under the sea and it really feels like some seawater got in and mixed with the whisky. It became overly salted and it's honestly one of the worst whiskies I've ever tasted.

  4. Unoudeuxverres scored this whisky 79 points Expert Senior

The nose is strangely light and sweet. Notes of fresh white fruit, melon, with a morning dew quality.

On the palate, as soon as it is placed on the tongue, there is an attack of salt, but a very present salt that makes you forget the rest. Like a glass of bicarbonate, the rest is hardly noticeable and the alcohol is slightly noticeable.

On the finish, the salt is always accompanied by seaweed and freshness.

The experience is surprising but unfortunately the ageing at sea is too much for me... perhaps a shorter duration would have been more reasonable.
