  1. 2ndSip Plus scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

Initially very withdrawn, then it opens up with enough air, but (unfortunately for me) produces bad notes.
He struggles, but also seems more and more out of round.
Unfortunately, the taste is extremely sharp, which also pushes the actually beautiful sherry moments into the background.
[81 - 78 = 'ok' whisky -> but do I need a whole bottle?] No real positive change in the post-test - unfortunately.

dark sherry notes, heavy, you notice the Oloroso as the starting point, hardly any sweetness. Raisins, prunes, muff, leather, tobacco leaf, wood polish. An earthy note also comes through from the background to the front.
The spiciness and spices are somehow there, but seem very closed off, like the malt itself. The fruits and spices are there, but everything seems to be turned down, only when the malt has had a lot of time in the air can it develop a little better. But then I also have missing marks from DMTS/sulphur/ignition plates, which unfortunately are increasing more and more.
Luckily, over time, they decrease a bit, and herbs make up more; but it still leaves a stale aftertaste.
Hops and malt can now also be found; this makes the malt appear more and more out of round.
Post-test: with The Nose I get even more musty and stale notes that don't seem so beneficial now; the Oloroso comes through, but doesn't seem harmonious - unfortunately.
    • Taste
      80 80
Spices, creamy and oily, hot attack. The sherry comes through again, the Oloroso aroma is there. Due to the sharpness, the 46% seems quite wild and impetuous on the tongue.
The tongue calms down, a film of sherry aromas covers the tongue. Slightly nutty moments arrive in the mouth. Slightly bitter note, but that's ok.
Second sip: sharp again at the start, the fruits don't really come into their own.
(ok, here I need a follow-up test, whether it depends on the shape of the day, or whether it's really that hot; not only is the tongue numbed by the hotness, the palate also gets the full broadside of hotness).
For me, this is a youthful alcohol sharpness and not from the barrel influence.
[Fortunately, the DMTS smells from the nose cannot be felt in the taste. Anyone who is sulfur sensitive can still access it.]
      Night test: stick with it
    • Finish

Sherry notes remain for quite a long time. Dark chocolate, oak/tannins. furniture polish.
Even more bitter in the post-test - so he hasn't improved here.
