[December, 2021] I found this dram in this year's advents calendar...

...and after two rather disgusting modern "wet-cask-treated" drinks this truly sooths my pain. If this was bottled maybe five years earlier it would have been a 90 points dram, for sure.
    • Nose
      89 89
The colour is amber and the nose offers a spirit-driven profile - hip hip hooray! This profile is subtle and complex on different fruits (both home-grown and exotic), honeys, waxes, spices, resins and a quite impressive mineral-chalky aroma which I like. Hey, this is very enjoyable to sniff but do not expect the cheap thrills of modern drams - this nose requires both some effort and patience from your side and rewards it, accordingly.
    • Taste
      89 89
The taste is layered on a variety of different flavours both from the sweet and bitter side. The fruits and barley sugars team up with waxes and tannins to form an impressive mix of bitter-sweet moments, supported by spices, oils and earthy notes. After some chewing the taste turns a little drying but this is not distracting given the overall complex profile. But the wood is quite loud, this for sure.
    • Finish
      87 87
The initial mouthfeel is warming and nicely coating with some gripping tannins of the wood. The finish is of medium length and adds more waxes and tannins which turn the dram to the bitter side, finally. This could have been bottled some years earlier, but still this is a fine malt. Some water turns the nose punchier before it releases more interesting earthy aromas and smooths the taste but intermingles the layers. A further reduction smooths both nose and taste and reduces the bitter flavours through adding delicate impressions of milk chocolate. I prefer to explore this dram neat and after that I reduce it to about 35% abv for greater drinking pleasure.
