- Longmorn 1971
(57,3%, OB for Spirito DiVino 2009, 56 btl.)
Nose: starts on apples, apricot jam and fruit tea, with a soft grassy side to it. Citrus, a little mint, sage and wax. There’s also a tropical touch (guava, banana) but less so than most of the 1975/1976 expressions. Fairly high on spices (nutmeg, ginger). Also a faint coastal note. Complex but not the most sexy version. Mouth: starts on oak spices and herbs, but after this a beautiful wave of fruits comes rushing in: pineapple, tangerine, pink grapefruit, banana and passion fruit. Overall more fresh / citrusy than warm / tropical again (more 1976 than 1975 if you like). Fades on fruit tea and a dryness from the oak. Finish: long, still citrusy and gingery.
A spicy and slightly oaky Longmorn of high quality. It surely wasn’t cheap at the time (around € 190), but even then it’s remarkable that this didn’t sell like hotcakes at the time. Now they’re gone.
- Wonderful whisky, great balance.
Apricot, papaya, plum, vanilla, almond, dusty wood (pallets), fig, leather, toffee, lychee and pepper. Whiffs of smoke, tobacco, toffee and a little musty touch like a church.
Apricot, vanilla, tobacco, mango, plum, pepper and caramel. Again that heavy leather and wood as well, like antique furniture. A little banana and marzipan. With water there's red apple.
Marzipan, vanilla, peach, plum, grapefruit, apple, tobacco, kiwi, toffee, fig and smoke.
- Just heard from the shop owner today that this rare Longmorn is sold out, unfortunately.
- Fruity and spicy aroma, figs, apricot, lime, olive oil, cloves, peat, dry hay and vanilla. Marzipan sweet taste, anise, cinnamon, figs, floral honey, sultanas, mint, walnuts and vanilla. Long, sweet and malty end.
- A stunner.
lots of lemons, limes, grapefruits and mangos. fresh and vivid with bags of honey and fruit on top of subtler notes of lemon grass, thyme, gingerbread, sage, butter and marmalade.
huge, swaggering notes of grapefruit, mango, tangerine, passion fruit and melon. A true fruit cocktail, one of these Longmorns that reminds you just what a brilliant distillery this is.
Long, sharp and alive with lemons, grapefruits, tropical notes, butter, honey, gingernut biscuits and warm spices.
