    A dram that denotes a dry and acidic structure, a little creamy and woody, much more acceptable at the end of the lineage than choke in the mouth, but fishing finish!
    • Nose
      vanilla, robust grain, austere, lemon, spices, brandy, caramelized synthetic fruits.
    • Taste
      dry malt, patty, fairly spicy spices, fresh fruits, a little synthetic too (acid candy!), a little caramel, a little wood on a wine cask
    • Finish
      simple, short on the acidic fruits, on the wood, on the grain after the slabs!

    'Hep ijin, nep krouadur' is Britton for ‘without imagination, no creation’. And while I like the idea of a buckwheat whisky, the taste does not make me smile. 40 EUR best spent elsewhere.
    • Nose
      The nose is candy like sweet and shows some vanilla, salty olive oil, but mostly… err.. apple cider! Could it be that they matured their spirit on the same small French casks that they also use for their cider. That’s not even far-fetched. But the result is mediocre.
    • Taste
      Very sweet on the palate, but again with that weird salty edge. Good fun if not for the immediate chemical sweetness that rears its ugly head. Some apples and litchi with some star anise and cinnamon. Unfortunately it turns into rosewater and perfume from the second sip on.
    • Finish
      The finish is mercifully short on litchi, honey, nutmeg, cinnamon and… cognac.

    more intense sensations, intense nose, a taste of grain rye style, a thinner wooded side .... better than a few years ago!
    always this taste of gout a little bit fretted anyway!

    Nose and mouth have an unpleasant soapy side. Lack of watts ...

    ‘Curious and delicious’

    N: Very sweet with a little wood, waxy with salt and oil.  Initially a Perthshire vibe before the apple brandy reveals itself.

    T: Ooh, aniseed. The caramel nose thankfully never materialises. Instead you receive a salty apple brandy aperitif. Subtle spices contribute behind the scenes with a hint of waxy lychee developing later.

    F: After the waxy lychee subsides, a vanilla woodiness settles with a balanced salty sweet apple lullaby that carries you upstairs and tucks you into bed.

    C: A hard to score whisky due to the fact that it tastes more like apple brandy than a [buckwheat] whisky. Curious and delicious. Very light and clean watery body, equally gentle on the 'palais' and showing good balance in the main. An acquired taste perhaps and certainly one to try before you buy.

    Scores a B-

    Aroma: floral, pharmacy ?, roses, orange, spices, citrus, heather, fruits, sour-sweet, honey, herbs, apple, cognac, fresh, spicy, citrus flavor, which also "produce" Palatine burners;

    Taste: heather, nut, sweet, wine (muscatel?), Perfume, floral, apple, lavender?

    Finish: medium, with sweetness;
    Conclusion: That's something else. Difficult to define (club mate M. finds something like Ovaltine!), But not unbelievable.

    What makes Eddu so special is the presence of a peculiar grain:buckwheat. Eddu silver is pure buckwheat, not pure malt as I was surprised to read in the presentation !

  8. Willie JJ scored this whisky 75 points Expert Senior

    Another decent French malt. Complex, but unbalanced.
    • Nose
      Orange marmalade, peppermint and spearmint, pear drops.
    • Taste
      A bit of a punch up on the taste buds. Dusty sugars, rough spices, hot spikes.
    • Finish
      The hot theme continues with peppercorns and chillies.
