Probably the best release of the entire series. Clean cut profile with lush springtime feels, paired with autumn seasoned fruits and warming summertime.

A very surprising but interesting and delicious dram, where the nose and palate are completely different. It's quite pricey, but besides that, it’s just really good. A whisky that you take your time for and can enjoy for a long time.
    • Nose
Lovely fresh and fruity. Red apples and sweet mandarins. A touch of vanilla custard and a floral note. Freshly cut grass too. Not super complex, but I quite like it.
    • Taste
Oh this is quite different from the nose. What a surprise! Nice thick and creamy mouthfeel. The fruits from the nose are almost completely gone. The only fruit I get is mandarins and also a hint of lemons. There is vanilla custard. Later also minerals. And a bunch of spices such as black pepper and a hint of cloves.
    • Finish
Mid-long to long and a bit dry, but nothing too much. A touch of oak and also black pepper, but some fruity notes too.

Refill barrels matured in 16-year-old royal Lochnagar. Labels look like they would have been drawn by someone who would normally draw covers for fantasy books.
    • Nose
Fruity fruity, pleasant and fresh, rowan berries, chewing gum,
    • Taste
Fresh, dry, alcohol sticks to the gums.
    • Finish
Long, strong but unbalanced with the scent. Annoyingly unbalanced whisky in this price range.

The water brings more fruit to the scent but brings out the imbalance even more.

Fruit. Both fresher and more ripe fruits. Sweet, creamy notes. Vanilla, caramel. A pinch of spices. Slightly spicy. Full, fun and fairly comprehensive.

That’s seriously good. Amazing balance of fragrant estery fruit, toasty malt, and earthy girthy worm-tub bass notes. That’s a winning flavour combination for me. I can’t believe how much yuzu I got out of this. Comparing it to other distilleries, the berry/chocolate/subtle peat combo reminds me a little of Benromach, and it’s a bit Ben Nevis-ish with those rich malty notes in there, too. Still, I’d say it’s lighter and fruitier than either of those whiskies. A real winner, once you ignore the price, of course.
    • Nose
Floral and fruity, but with hint of earthy heaviness. Woodsy apple pie, preserved strawberries, forest raspberries, melon, and strong fragrant yuzu. Sourdough dipped in buttery olive oil, along with sweeter malty notes of honey-drizzled toasted raisin challah and Biscoff cookies. The earthy side of the dram comes across as cool mud and damp moss.
With a few drops of water, there are rich floral notes, almost herbal tea. Baking spice emerges.
    • Taste
Medium-oily texture. Robust and toasty in the middle. Sweet-tart fruit on the arrival – yuzu, russet apple, and muscat grapes. Buttery sweetness and caramel, almost a little yeasty. Raspberry cookies. Very robust and toasty flavours in the middle. Rich oak, dark-roast malt, toasted coconut, unsweetened chocolate, roasted green tea. A hint of soft woodsy smoke, with a pleasant matchstick sulfur character (it doesn’t bother me, so it almost certainly won’t bother you). Toasted whole-wheat bread with a thin slathering of butter.
Earthier and with slightly more of a sulfur funk with water. Even more yuzu.
    • Finish
Medium-long. Fatty, very nearly savoury, with some fruity acidity. Fragrant candied citron, gooseberry, pear, melon, shea butter. Subtle cinnamon. A hint of earthiness and yeast. More muscat grapes, raspberry, and some tangerine.
Water lengthens the finish slightly. More honey-sweetened tea.

    Blind Tasting: March 2022
    • Nose
A beautiful floral tone, with heather and a honey sweetness. Some tropical fruits, vanilla and red apples.
    • Taste
Creamy vanilla, some citrus, a lot of fruits and hazelnuts and with a certain spiciness.
    • Finish
Medium in length, with vanilla, heather, sweetness and a very floral. A certain bitter tone at the finish.

    (TASTED BLIND)
NOSE: Banana, other yellow tropical fruits, caramel, overaged apples, leather, farmyard, eukalyptus. With a few drops of water less eukalyptus, more leather and farmyard. (89p).
TASTE: Quite sweet arrival. Farmy notes, mint/eukalyptus, white pepper. With a few drops of water less mint, more earthiness/farminess, a little sweeter. (88p).
FINISH: Integrated but still noticeable alcohol burn, eukalyptus (87p). With a few drops of water less of the burn, more leather and well matured cheeses. (89p).
OVERALL: Could it be from both refill bourbon and refill rum casks? Very nice whisky, drinks Total score 88 (89) points.
