    SMWS Tasting Notes

Lovely, sweet, spicy things came to the nose - sticky marmalade, cinnamon toast, plum jam, burnt edge of rice pudding and liquorice allsorts in a waxy bag. The palate was feisty but fun - crunchie bars dipped in salt, burnt grass, molasses and the kind of toffee that comes with a hammer. The reduced nose was intriguing; we found polished wood and a brass coal scuttle. One panellist was reminded of a fairground (candy-floss and generator smoke). The reduced palate was tangy, leathery, with lip-burning heat - `a fire-breather's dram` said one of the ladies. Made near the 'glen of the wild geese'.

    Glengoyne 8yo - Cs. 123.5 (SMWS) - refill Port Pife - 60.8% Hello,

just pulled out the sample and poured. It is a young Glengoyne from the Port Pipe (650 l), let's start:

    Colour:

Rose gold, a few thick, slowly running legs.

    Nose:

Typical port nose, dry dominant red fruit, the alcohol easily shimmers through, anise, leather.

    Taste:

Oily, slightly alcoholic, with increasing duration really fruity with a slightly bitter background, toffee, pepper ==> nasturtium - this crisp fruitiness reminiscent of Kapuzienerkresse ... has the cultivation but already worth it ,

    finish:

A good medium length carried by the alcohol. Also slightly bitter here.

    With water:

The alcohol retreats slightly in favor of the fruit, becomes a little more fruity and oily.

    Conclusion:

A nice young Glengoyne bottling, which would not have hurt a few more years in the barrel in case of doubt and then the bitter notes might have won the upper hand, but with some water gains.
