I got a 10cl sample as a gift and that's because there are whisky lovers who don't like sulfur in whisky :-). And with this one, sulfur is clearly the dominant note. A bit one dimensional, unfortunately, but if you're in the mood for such a whisky, it's round enough to have some fun with

This is the third dram of this whisky over the past three days and on all three days the sulfur has been so dominant that it's hard for me to rate it. I like sulfur in whisky, especially the Michel Couvreurs, but here the sulfur is so prominent that I hardly notice the other notes behind it. In the middle part, after 20 minutes, there is a fruity sherry note that is not overloaded at all.

It is surprisingly soft on the palate, but still powerful and offers a (sulphurous) sweetness of fresh plums and woody notes. I dilute it down to about 45% with plenty of water and that makes it rounder, but unfortunately it remains extremely one-sided without losing any volume. But I really like the mouthfeel.

      Average, but also very one-sided.

    • Taste
Fruity, slightly sulphurous, strong dark fruits, spice and oak. Some roasted flavor. sweet caramel A little biting...
    • Finish

[April, 2022] Just a short warning to all who are sensitive to the flavours of hell...

...this one is spoiled with sulphurous off-notes both in the nose and on the palate, but luckily not as badly as some other drinks the devil shares with us. If you are not very sensitive to sulphur or you even enjoy a "hellish" taste this might be a good deal to go for, otherwise shy away.

PS: Why the f''' they still do not state this on the label or give at least a hint (like others do with release names like "The Devil's Cask"). To me this clearly indicates that they know very well sulphur is a flaw which spoils a dram and hence they withhold this information in any official tasting notes (or have you ever read this anywhere?). Shame on you, this is a fraudulent concealment...

    blind tasting
this is not one for me
those sulphur/rotten egg notes that get even stronger with water spoil this malt for me
    • Nose
Vanilla, soft sherry, a chemical note (in the direction of a loose-leaf binder), slightly metallic/mineral note decreases, a floral note could be the scent of roses, something tingles, sweet, oak comes
with water: minimal sulfur decreases, freshly sawn wood, minimal leather tart, milk chocolate

from 1920s: wood notes (old, heavy), sparkles, polish
with water: sweet berries, grassy note, vanilla comes
    • Taste
      full, oily, powerful with bang
tart wood, slightly sulfur increases, rotten eggs

with water: softer but still bites, rotten eggs/sulphur increases, chocolate ~65%, oak!!, a plastic note
    • Finish
      long
Sulphur/rotten eggs, tart, chocolate ~70%, mixture of bast and wood

with water: more rotten eggs, waffle with chocolate, very tart, spicy wood note, tobacco is really great, Maggi

      astringent on tongue and gums

Still good on the nose but too much sulfur for me in taste, which ruins the whisky for me.

I have reviewed the price quality, it is fantastic. Once in a life time for this money.

Nose, Lots ofsherry, fruits, carambole, grapefruit, dry lime zest.
Taste, Sherry, honeydew, little citric, quince, pear, green apple, spices, leafy hints, whiffs of vanilla - pretty good
Finish, Long, warm, more punchy, zesty, spicy and Sherry again.

Little punchy, oily, creamy, subtle sweetness, fruity, yellow fruits, peach, apple, little apricot, spices, little oak wood, little ginger - very good!
