A nice, uncomplicated malt at a reasonable price. The alcohol is too strong undiluted for me – it tolerates a lot of water. Based on the oily consistency, I would have guessed the Clynelish distillery. As for the cask, I'm guessing a sherry cask. Since the sherry notes are not so dominant, it is probably a refill cask. All in all, the bottling went well.

    • Nose
Slightly musty with notes of sherry and sour citrus fruits. Also some spicy oak. The alcohol is clearly noticeable and creates a slightly cooling feeling in the nose. Then it becomes much sweeter, almost like syrup or liqueur. Overall I think he's a bit closed. You should definitely give him enough time. After the first taste, the aroma is less heavy, but lighter and fresher. I can now also find bright, ripe fruits such as mirabelle plums and apricots. The seasoning of the barrel also becomes more intense. This reminds me of typical “spice cupboard flavors” like cinnamon and nutmeg.
    • Taste
As expected, powerful and intense. Here, too, the alcohol makes itself felt immediately and coats the tongue. Undiluted already a bit borderline. Then there are sweet wine notes (sherry?) with dark, but also slightly sour fruits such as blackberries and strawberries. The mouthfeel is, as the nose already indicated, syrupy and sticky sweet - almost chewable. Wine gums and also a bit of coconut come to mind. Then it becomes significantly spicier and even slightly bitter with dark chocolate.
    • Finish
Slightly sweet at first, followed by Christmas spices and oak. The oak is surprisingly light and not really bitter. Again I find the wine gums and the dark chocolate. The finish is about medium long.

      With water:
On the nose it is significantly lighter and pleasantly sweet. I still have a cooling sensation in my nose, but not as stinging anymore. It's also much more pleasant on the tongue, but still very intense. In addition to the dark berries (now also currants), the light fruits come out of the nose, as well as slightly sour citrus notes. The consistency is still very oily. The sweetness now lasts a little longer in the finish. The different fruits harmonize very well with each other. Towards the end, a hint of oak lingers along with strawberries.
