    Superb sherry, balanced and complex.
    • Nose
Woody nose on cedar and sandalwood, walnuts dipped in caramel, nice little tar smoke, fresh dried fruits in the background.
    • Taste
Thick but fresh mouth on both a concentrate of dates, figs and prunes, accompanied by a superb fresh and mentholated smoke. Bitter apricot kernel. Soft leather.
    • Finish
Final on the smoke which densifies while surprisingly the tar becomes more medicinal. Burnt sugar, dark chocolate. Smoked wood concentrate.

Nice sherry whisky, great balance. But I am not ready to support the general enthusiasm on his topic. I didn't find any depth or layers, everything is simple enough
    • Nose
      90 90
Dusty dried fruits, dark chocolate, a little bit of dried out varnish, spices and pastry baked goods, cinnamon, citrus fruits, tobacco
    • Taste
      89 89
Salted caramel, a drop of iodine, prunes, citrus fruits and light peat
    • Finish
      89 89
Spices, prunes, citruses, some kind of medicinal potions, strong black tea

Really do not get the high ratings, it is a good malt especially the nose is fantastic but onwards it gets just south... It needs a lot of water to open up and the drying espresso finish is also not to my liking. maybe a spoiled sample!?

Excellent, dense, thick, like a fog, creeping on the grass, very tasty whisky.
    • Nose
      91 91
Dust, varnish, dried tea roses, tea leaves, dried, candied plum jam and apricot jam, a little paint that covers the furniture.
    • Taste
      92 92
Sweet, thick, full of dried fruits with a predominance of prunes. A little bit of tea leaves and bitterness. Multi-layered, buttery, like a custard.
    • Finish
      91 91
Sweet. Prunes, apricot jam, varnish. At the end, bitter tea leaves prevail. Short, however.

Prune tobacco coffee, leather, exotic wood, smoked meat, menthol, flawless sherry, very good.

  9. OJK scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

Pinesap, balsamic vinegar and herbal liqueur on the nose, with old leather, cigar boxes, smoking hay stacks, cherries and figs. Cinnamon and cherries on the palate with the smoke creeping in, along with black pepper, a hint of aniseed and herbal syrup. More of the same on the finish, with a soft wave of eucalyptus smoke eventually taking over.

Huge complexity, balanced, flawless sherry cask, perfect level of sweetness - just fantastic!
Very much underrated here if you asked me...
    • Nose
      95 95
Lots of dried fruits, dates, figs, plums, hints of raisins, little nutty, cigar tobacco, fine leathery notes (good ones), sherry wood, spices, little nutmeg, cloves, whiffs of smoked bacon, toasted bread, dark chocolate, little toffee - superb!
    • Taste
      96 96
Little punchy, oily, creamy, liquorice, good sweetness, menthol, eucalyptus, more dried fruits, little brown sugar and molasses, tobacco, sherry wood, chocolate, toffee, finest leather boots - delicious!
    • Finish
      94 94
Long, warm, coffee, very little tannic, still good sweetness, not drying at all, chocolate, little woody - excellent!

    Rated 91/100 from Angus @ Whiskyfun.com….

Colour: amber - pretty dark for a refill. Nose: did they refill one of their 1950s Talisker sherry casks? I'm sorry but this is a stunning mix of soy sauce, natural tar, mentholated pinewood resins, pu erh teas and salted liquorice. An exceptional sherry profile that, given blind, I'd probably have said was 60s or earlier. With some time there's a tiny more 'Ardmore' accent emerging, but it's wrapped up so beautifully in all this sherry. With water: evolves more towards old leather, dunnage must, hessian and smoked meats. A slight but distinctive farmyard voice at the back from Ardmore.

Mouth: beautiful arrival! Perfectly clean, pure and vivid sherry. More soy sauce, umami paste, green walnut liqueur, root beer, more natural tar, black pepper, game meats. Hugely concentrated and yet also beautifully well balanced against the distillate and ABV. More of these impressions of earthy, aged black teas and exotic hardwood resins. Some tiny threads of peat smoke. With water: softer, more dried dark fruits, black pepper, dried flowers, herbal teas, walnuts and a lightly saline rancio.

Finish: long and quite complex, all on dried citrus peels, hessian, subtle medicines, herbs, pot pourri, touches of caraway, paprika and more walnut liqueur.

Comments: what a cask! Brilliant, old school sherry - reminiscent of some 60s Springbanks. I would love to know its history and what the first fill was? Either way, a totally stunning Ardmore: balanced, deeply complex, clean, fresh and captivating.
