This was my first high strenght whisky back in 2013. Great value for the money and nice to experiment with in adding the right amount of money. Retasted a sample I kept from the original bottle, and upgraded my rate from 84 to 85.
    • Nose
      85 85
After the initial alcohol attack (60%..) vanilla, raisins, amarena cherries, and coffee appear. Has a perfumy sweet tone at the background.
    • Taste
      85 85
Creamy milk chocolate, vanilla, rhum soaked raisins and coffee. Almost like cognac on steroids.
    • Finish
      84 84
A bit fruitier with raisins again and citrus fruits, accompanied by espresso notes. Becomes more oaky in the aftertaste: a bit spicy and dry with a whiff of tobacco.

A very well priced cask strength whisky. Value (£52/litre) : 8/10
    • Nose
The alcohol is very upfront at 60%. Beneath that, some pears and caramel sweetness. Some of the dark raisin and sultana notes show here as well. Personally I would hope for a darker sherry note here.
    • Taste
Here is where the ABV shows it's worth. Nice thick mouthfeel. Slight honeyed sweetness before the abv takes over. Loads of pepper spice and oaky notes as well.
    • Finish
Medium in length, More oaky tannins continue here with some dark chocolate and raisins as well.

N: sherry, figs, dried plums and peaches, candy, the typical Glenfarclas wood notes, espresso

P: milk chocolate, vanilla, marzipan, black caramelized fruits, espresso

F: long and fruity with lots of sherry

105 proof was the old measure of alcohol content. The whisky was mixed with gunpowder. Based on the explosive strength of the mixture, the alcohol content could be calculated.
The Glenfarclas 105 named after that matured exclusively in sherry casks and was bottled at a strong 60% ABV.

First experience tasting a 50%+ whisky. Great strong body, slightly smokey, sweet aftertaste. Perfect whisiky for a cold winter's evening and quite affordable!
    • Nose
      92 92
Sweet and fruity, vanilla sense with slightly smokey touch
    • Taste
      90 90
Full body whisky, smooth on the tongue, even at this really high alcohol percentage.
    • Finish
      93 93
A great sweet vanilla smoked after drink sensation seems to last forever. Sweet turf and sherry accents

Fun as a first cask strength whisky, and still not terrible for an intermediate whisky drinker. For now I’m not in a hurry to replace this.
    • Nose
      82 82
At first a very present ethanol, like hand sanitizer. Time in the glass mellows and reveals a sweet caramel, vanilla and wine. More subtle notes include milk chocolate, cherries, redberries, raspberries, leather, cinnamon and oak spice.
    • Taste
      80 80
Sweet and sour arrival which turns into a bready savory flavor with the usual dried fruit sherry notes combined with oranges, lemons, raisins, rhubarb, ginger and a little vanilla. Reminds of flat soda for some reason.
    • Finish
      81 81
Medium, semi-dry with a zesty bitterness. Raisins and vanilla sweetness.

    bottled 12/2019

That was always an all time favorite of mine, but the new one makes it a little harder for me.

The nose is young, but nice and fruity and sweet, there are hints of sherry, rather simple, but tasty.
Lots of strength, sherry, wood, but noticeably young, yoghurt, liquorice, but still perfectly okay despite the 60% pure.
Finish is rather tart, light sherry influence, liquorice, some wood, spices.

Conclusion: I already had 4 bottles of it since 2009. There were also those without a file. Still good whisky, PLV Monster, but the nice nutty aromas are missing and the youth is getting through quite badly, more like before. A little shame.
