There are better examples of Mortlach at this age, but this 25-year-old from Gordon & Macphail's Distillery Label series is highly entertaining and offers a nice maturity.
    • Nose
Very subtle and elegant. Notes of orange marmelade, liquorice and quinces, but also caramel, candlewax and a whiff of beeswax. Some light mineral and floral touches in the background.
    • Taste
Proper oily mouthfeel and pretty flavourful. A quick hit of black pepper and nutmeg followed by crème caramel and toffee, but also cigar tobacco, coffee grounds and a sliver of crushed mint leaves and fennel. Maybe lacks a little fruitiness.
    • Finish
Lingering spices and yellow cake with finally some orange zest. Medium in length.

I agree with Yarema. This Mortlach is kind of boring. And to be honest, I expected a little more from her.

I wouldn't guess 46% - rather less. The scent is very subtle. Mostly red fruit, dried dates, cane sugar and a bit of orange. In the taste, a slightly sparkling acidity typical of Mortlach. Caramel, orange, orange peel and some ginger. The finish is slightly astringent with a hint of mint and citrus peel.

A few drops of water will not bring anything very new or positive. It just increases the heat in the taste, which appears after a while on the palate and then carries over to the finish, where it is very intense. Plus an impression of significant waxiness on the palate after swallowing.

All in all, rather disappointing overall...

Delicious. But the price is way too high.

Nose: Overripe banana that covers everything, only some vanilla and dark berries make it subtle in the background
Taste: the banana remains dominant, slightly sour and woody note, but not unpleasant. Add some orange to it.
    Departure: Quite short and calm
Conclusion: tasty malt, but not very complex considering its age

A very watered down whisky for all whisky characteristics. Hints of a good nose but quite transparent and without development. After breathing a little, there is no density of age at all. There is not even a hint of sulfur characteristic of the age-old Mortlatch. The taste is very light dried fruits and dry and washed bitterness. The finish is soft and without character. It's kinda boring. Drinking - this is the only thing that is peculiar to him. The feeling that it is simply necessary to drink in large glasses, but definitely not savor it.

This New Edition 2021 with 46% is significantly better than the previous bottling with only 43% ....

... reminiscent of flamed orange peel, roasted barley, a hint of good old cognac.
    • Taste

It's a good thing to drink, although it is dry and sour as for me, and I don't feel age, but this is a modern story ...

  12. Official tasting note

Rich sherry aromas combine with fruitcake. Autumnal spices and undertones of orange complement summer berries. A long and lingering finish of almonds.

elegant nose, far from dark(er) sherry, still fruity
oak heavy on the palate and finish
