Agree with CVke on this one; this is a easy light-bodied sipper that people seeking heavy oak-bombs will shun. For $20 a liter, it’s a fantastic value for an easy sipper with a balanced profile. A few years ago when one of my biggest bourbon-nerd friends opened this for fun, we all agreed it punched above its weight. Coming back to a new bottle, I still think that holds true. Bumped taste a point to consider the QPR.

New oak, green wood, a hint of rye spice (especially brown spices/cinnamon). Reminds me of a lighter bodied WT 101, which is another winner in its weight-class. Light honey or very light maple syrup, with some banana. Banana pancakes drizzled with syrup and a dash of cinnamon might capture this well. Some orange that makes me want to spin this into a lighter styled old fashioned. Just a slight hint of sweet tobacco. Might be the best QPR in bourbon the more I smell it. Compared to Ancient Ancient Age which was worthy of a drain-pour, this is a steal.

Sweet profile throughout the entire experience. Not particularly acidic or juicy which is a letdown for my preference, but on the other hand, it’s not overly woody or tannic which would detract points for me. Understandably light bodied, although the viscosity is medium-. Coming back to it, very light bodied, would serve as a great cocktail base for a drink that highlights it’s other components (fruit, bitters, etc.) Bourbon Manhattan?

Impressive in it’s balance, which isn’t common in such a light profile—usually, some weird edge pokes through.
    • Finish

Persistent sweetness which lasts for some time. Lingering light burn on my upper palate that also persists. No burn down to the belly though, so the distillate seems of a good quality. Slightly drying after a time with vanilla, some black licorice, and light oak.
