    Umami

Glentauchers is one of those distilleries that doesn't appear too often on my radar, but recently I fell in love with a Glentauchers from 2009 and Manny and I decided to bottle it for MMM. Since then I have been looking around for this Speysider – which, by the way, together with Glenburgie and Miltonduff, forms the heart of the Ballantine's blend. In my glass is now a young Glentauchers that matured for 6 years on a sherry cask and was bottled by The Whisky Mercenary for the Whisky Hogs, a Belgian whisky club.

Oh, my! Umami! Bacon on the barbecue where a lot of herbes de Provençe and sea salt were sprinkled around. And then follow the sweet notes in the form of a jam of blood oranges and rhubarb. Finally, something of roasted nuts. What a nice nose.

Nice and oily. It immediately sticks to the teeth. The strength is fine, no water needed. Nice and spicy on cloves and nutmeg supplemented with salted caramel, toffee, milk chocolate and candied orange peels. Very, very good!

The finish is very long, slightly drying and above all very spicy. Cloves on the deathbed.

I was very happy with the Glentauchers we bottled for MMM, but I have to admit: this is in another league. Excellent choice!

Entertaining fresh nose on herbs (ie. rosemary), bloodoranges, marmalade, bacon, maggi, gingerbread and lots of red fruits highlighted with a pinch of salt.

Rich & oily mouthfeel, modern sherry, spices & sweets are dancing the tango here, salt & caramel (always a wining combination), peardrops, merengue, just how I like it!

Lingering dry and herbal (on cloves) aftertaste!

This is excellent Glentauchers and at 7 years of age it demonstrates its power and freshness. Great cask, great selection. Wow!
