Appearance: Medium orange-amber. Slightly lighter than The First.
Nose: Very peated, smoke, iodine, salt. Almost Islay levels but not quite. Apricots in the background, vanilla, malt sugar.
Palate: Iodine and peat smoke, campfire, caramel, vanilla, light stone fruit that is not as impressive as in the unpeated one.
Finish: Peppery and phenolic.
With Water: Milder, sweeter, malt cookies come out.
Overall: Nicely peated for a Japanese whisky. Not quite Islay levels but the peat dominates. Sadly it also seems to cover up the lovely fruitiness of the unpeated First. Good though, smoky biscuits with vanilla and light apricot.
