Whisky Reviews for Clynelish 1972 TWA
11 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 92.30 points
- Complex, full of character, good structure and harmonious.
Orange, honey blossom, green pear, tropical fruits, dark chocolate, wet cardboard. Very nicely balanced, filigree, a lot of depth, with high intensity.
Wax, tropical fruits, maritime, rhubarb, fresh woody seasoning, cigar box, coffee brewing. Elegant, full-bodied, very balanced, delicate, silky, very nice texture and high aroma pressure.
Pear, pepper, paraffin, citrus, fine peat. Balanced, light sweetness and a long finish
- Fruity and peaty, Superb sherry, toffee, liquorice, leather, bitter orange, candied grapefruit, tobacco, coffee, brilliant!
Spicy-salty-sharp! At the same time dull and fruity with notes of damp earth, wood, slightly overripe orange, sweet-liquid honey, as well as fruit notes of mirabelle and delicate farmy notes (hay). The salt ruled at the beginning with tingling nostrils, which, however, moved a little into the background after prolonged breathing.
Soft, spicy and slightly tart with fruity-yellow notes of mirabelle, gold kiwi and lemon. In addition a super salty maritime and very pleasant spice with tobacco and cedar wood. The taste is overall oily-smoky underlaid and accompanied to the finish with intense soft chocolate notes - great!
Long - still spicy, tingling and with smoky notes of pickled yellow fruit, as well as soft tobacco leaves provided. All around harmoniously delicious!

- I really like this profile - it's not typically Clynelish but I tasted other old bottlings from The Whisky Agency like Speyside Region 1973 and they really manage to get hold off the best casks - excellent!
Intense, honeydew, sweet nectar, fruity citrusy, orange peels - great
Punchy, very oily, liquorice, mellow, thick, waxy and smooth, honey again, orange jam, sea breeze, hints of peat, lemony - superb
Medium long and warm, still sweet, fruity and round - fantastic
- Colour: Old gold-amber.
Nose: Round, waxy, floral, on elderberry and with a
faint smokiness and tangerine notes.
Taste: Citric, smooth, spicy, slightly
salty and smoky, subtle, on almond, tangerine, some orange and elderberries. The
finish is long, waxy, slightly citric, smoky and slightly peaty.
Impression: A very elegant Clynelish, maybe not as intense as some recently
1972s Clynelish bottlings, but subtler and slightly more complex. Most
- another great Clynelish with these best waxy notes, including tropical fruit and some honey 92p.
