With too much fruit and mustiness on the nose and a taste that quickly collapses and a short finish, it cannot convince. And the distillery character is hard to discern.

That literally screams sherry cask-pimmed... - raisins, fresh figs, fermented grapes, which transport a slightly rotten note to the nose. Wet cardboard, damp basement shelves in the musty, musty and unventilated basement. Scratches quite a sulfur note. Grated chocolate flakes (tart and rich in cocoa), crème brûlée - and again and again the fermented grapes find their way to the front. At first there is still a little solvent, vaguely reminiscent of turpentine, but - fortunately - that evaporates. Spicy at the back with chervil and cardamom.

Undiluted, it rolls quite vigorously over the tongue. A few drops of water certainly wouldn't hurt... Warm caramel, roasted orange peel, grated almonds, marzipan. Even with a bit of water, it still hammers the tongue properly. A hint of menthol pulls through, makes it fresh - and yet takes some aromas with it. After marzipan & co., I was curious about spice, as it came later in the nose: none. After the hint of menthol it's over.
    • Finish
      82 82
Short, relatively neutral, still fresh from the menthol. Dryness spreads throughout the mouth with no other flavors contributed.

Regardless of the still, it's the barrel that speaks. He draws his fascination from the strength of the barrel, but with water he becomes very ordinary. Yet. From time to time I find pleasure in such Woodsky.
    • Nose
Very sweet, intense sherry aromas of alcohol, schnapps praline, you can guess 63%, plus caramel, very sweet, in the background there is definitely oak, always there, never in the foreground. Especially sweeter with water, but flatter.
    • Taste
Nice and strong on its own, peppery and also hot in the mouth, tart oak, strong sherry, also a bit salty pungent. Pleasant with water, sherry, salt, some oak, sparkling.
    • Finish
The finish is tart, oak, sharpness, musty sherry, some salt. Tarter and a little more boring with water.

Here the distillery character is blurred. Unfortunately, the alcohol is not well integrated. Adding water makes it milder, but also creates a musty note that bothers me
    • Nose

Sour fruit notes, sherry clearly noticeable, espresso notes and behind them the smell of beeswax candles develops
    • Taste
      80 80
alcoholic, lots of acid, mint, baked apple, bitter substances, clear notes of beeswax
    • Finish
      75 75
Short and warming, flavor components are unfortunately swept away by a pronounced alcoholic note.

In the nose a lot of menthol, mint, roasted coffee beans, liquorice, fermented fruit, sour bread.
    Tasting:
Here, too, the bitter substances and acidity dominate. The barrel has the upper hand. It's a shame from the distillery profile
nothing left. The alcohol also burns something in the esophagus.
Unfortunately, the barrel has too much influence here.
The finish is also very short for such a cask-heavy whisky.
Experiment with water nosing: Yes, it can tolerate water. It becomes creamier, more sweet chocolate, less acid.
Tasting: Unfortunately, there is no advantage here.
The alcohol remains and so does the acid.
