after having gone through a few of these Cuvee's.. i have arrived at the (humble, but self-serving) opinion that young Ledaig and (good) wine simply works for me.. it's savoury, sprightly, interesting and quirky wisky. i simply enjoy this (apparently) simple fun.. and will (supposedly) buy every single one of them.. ;)

  5. Dre73 scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Predominanty fruity in the nose, vegetal, only a little smoky. Nice sour edge in the taste, warm long finish.
    • Nose
Some slight peatsmoke, hay, sweet and fruity. Citrus, peach, some vegetal green. Pretty some alcohol. Nice full scent, ripe fruits, later on more sweetness.
    • Taste
A little of sal ammoniac, strong, pepper, intense. Orange, malty, honey, full taste. Licorice, sweet smoke. Citrus, a sour note underneath.
    • Finish
Still pretty strong, some pepper, some bitterness and sour, grapefruits on a smoky layer. Pretty long.

Compared to Cuvée # 2, which also has an ex-Bordeaux finish, it looks more sedate and balanced. The additional ripening time is good.
Unfortunately a bit short in the finish, otherwise the picture would have been really round.
    • Nose
      87 87
Sweet, overripe banana. Mild campfire smoke. Almonds. White pepper. The alcohol pushes hard.

Over time in the glass, the fruit aromas become tart and darker. Reminds me of grapes and figs
    • Taste
      85 85
Strong start, a lot of pressure. Ashy and peppery. Then he becomes cute. Creamy vanilla. Cinnamon. Mild on the palate.
    • Finish
      83 83
Intensive warming. Gets drier over time. Shows oak and tart chocolate. Aromatic, unfortunately, a little shorter than hoped.

The nose offers less smoke than the three in front of it, the alcohol comes out a bit more severe despite the age. The sweetness of the barrel is rather subtle in the background. Strawberries, vanilla, red and gold fruits

Here too, in my opinion, you notice the> 60% alcohol for the first time. Which surprises me a bit, since this one is also a bit older. All in all, the whisky looks a bit more sedate, but that doesn't necessarily come across as positive here. The corners and edges all look a bit smoothed

The finish is slightly spicy, with a hint of pepper. Dry. The deep red turns into a brown-black. Could be a little longer for my taste.

Tasty but # 2 was just better ????????‍♂️

  16. Whisky-Connaisseur did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

A powerful, vanilla-sweet and at the same time spicy-smoky Ledaig. In my opinion, the influence of the Bordeaux wine cask is more noticeable here than in the Cuvée bottling No 2. The grape notes are particularly well expressed on the palate. By adding water the sweetness is lost and more dryness emerges.

I thank Kirsch Import e.K. for the complimentary sample!

    • Nose
Sweet notes on the nose with vanilla, apricot and red berries, accompanied by malted barley and campfire smoke. Very harmonious and pleasing. The high alcohol content is always present, but not pungent.
    • Taste
First sweet on the palate with vanilla and barley sugar, then very warming with an alcoholic spiciness, pepper and even chilis, accompanied by astringent tannins from the wine cask. As soon as the heat fades, creamy vanilla and apricot jam with sweet red grapes appear, followed by slightly bitter notes of grape skin and seeds. The whole is subtly wrapped in fine peat smoke.
    • Finish
The finish is long lasting, warming and creamy with vanilla. Then becomes drier with oak, some allspice and slightly bitter grape skins. Some smoke and ash notes towards the end.

With water: After the addition of water, the nose is much more peppery with slightly floral notes and wood fire smoke. Behind this, red grapes and winy notes emerge. Sweet and only slightly warming on the palate, but very tingling on the tongue with pepper and dry notes of tannins. A little vanilla, followed by ash and smoke. The finish is still long and slightly warming, becoming increasingly dry with grape skin, bitter grape seeds, smoke and ashes.
