Certainly an interesting whisky that was added to the portfolio of official bottlings. Being only mildly smoky, it could be appealing to both peat lovers and the ones that like the more balanced whiskies.

The only thing is that this whisky still lacks a bit of depth and balance. The nose is very promising and almost makes me think of the Campbeltown character. It has fruit, peat, minerality, despite its juvenile appearance. On the palate and finish, it doesn't convince as much. Initially fruity, it gets rather dry and less expressive. The longer you wait, the larger the effect.

All in all it is very promising but I can't imagine that such a whisky stays the OB core range of this distillery after 5 years or so.

Verdict: as a core range bottling it's very promising, but not yet a revulotion in the industry.

The nose is quite balanced if you allow some time in the glass. It has smoke, seaweed, limestone, cereal, even a bit of leaf, but also some lifting notes of pear, red apple and orange blossom. What might not appeal to everybody is a slightly yeasty note. As this whisky is not supposed to be ultra "clean" it is not disturbing to me.

A tad fresher than the nose suggests. Here, the influence of the part that was matured in bourbon speaks louder. The fruit is more pronounced now (besides the orchard fruit, also some lemon zest) and there is a hint of toasted coconut. There is still some limestone, wood, and spice (ginger). The peat is less noticeable now.
    • Finish

Gets a tad dry, which lingers together with some acidity (lemon zest), minerality (limestone) and a whiff of smoke.

Ardnamurchan online tasting 01.12.2020 w/Graeme Mackay.
    #1 AD/09.20:01, semi-peated, 46.8% ABV.
NOSE: Sweet malt, honey, a slight salty and coastal note. With more air it takes on heathery notes as well. Limestone and a light hint of smoke.
TASTE: Youngish but rounded and quite nicely balanced. Some fruitiness but grainy rather than fruity.
EXIT: Mild black pepperiness, fruity, medium long.

Nice texture, honey, strawberry, black pepper, mineral. Finish is shortish.

Color: White Wine. Nose: honey sweetness, some mash, freshly sawn hardwood, smoldering fire, some candle soot. Orange peel and spray - hammer. Undergrowth and fresh mountain water. Mouth: Sweet, a lot of candle soot, an incredible amount of beeswax, tree sap and propolis for 5 years. Malt, straw, some mash and dry earth. Smoldering campfire, spray. Finish: Not too long, summer honey, some beeswax, candle soot, smoldering campfire, and so on, ...

Oh man, there would have been room for improvement in terms of notes, in terms of taste at 5 years old, the marriage of peated / unpeated did not really make an impression on me with my "bottle sample", here it was, older tasting schnapps at 5 years old Producing a barrel is probably not possible.

The taste is still immature but the nose proves that this is very promising spirit well on its way.

Very nice combination of fruitiness with a subtle touch of smoke. Pretty thick structure, smooth but certainly not weak. Very pleasant encounter with this new distillery.

Very fruity, citrus, ripe apple, some alcohol noticeable. Some orange, honey. Far away a hint of smoke.
    • Taste
      85 85
Definately some more hints of smoke now, combined with fruitiness. More red fruits now, like raspberry and strawberry. Honey again, very smooth without being thin, to the contrary actualy, thick structure.
Later on a bit more tingling mouthfeel, some pepper.
    • Finish
      85 85
Still very smooth yet warming, spicy, fruity, orange, light red fruits, a linger of smoke again. Licorice. A little bitter note underneath, orange zest.
      Pretty long, some tobacco remains.
