The whisky is wonderfully powerful and yet elegant. You shouldn't expect any classic sherry aromas à la family cask 2003/2020 (no raisins, plums, furniture polish, dark chocolate, etc.), but you will be rewarded with beautiful complex refill aromas. The indication "Sherry Butt" suggests an initial filling in view of the otherwise strictly specified 4th refill casks, but the aromas are clearly in the direction of refill. This family cask can best be compared with the 1993/2018 (WID 117029).
The nose starts out very voluminous and complex and first hits you with a basket of fruit. Ripe peaches, nectarines and canned pineapples promise a lot. With a little time you can smell grapefruit, gooseberry, red currant and a touch of elderflower. At the end of the smell, milk chocolate, herbs and cashew nuts come. An interesting mix. The nose is wonderful, you just have to be a little patient and give the whisky time to develop its aroma.
The very first drop fills the entire mouth with aromas. Multivitamin juice, strawberries, nuts and pastries. The herbal notes are discreetly perceptible (especially mint). No sulfur, not a hint of a missing note. Just an elegant and delicate bitterness.
Just before swallowing, pineapple and a shot of cocoa.
The finish is long. The multivitamin juice lasts the longest and turns into a delicate bitterness with oak tones.
