  1. MaltMartin scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Old Fitz from the Stitzel-Weller era (the Van Winkle family sold the distillery in 1972) is always a delight. This one is no exception. A bottle from the 1970's, so distillate from the end of the 1960's, early 1970's. It's got all you want to have in a bourbon. Rich layered, fruity and robust.
    • Nose
Beautiful bourbon nose of rich toffee intermingled with lots of cherries and strawberries. Raspberries and plums. Stewed fruit of figs and dates as well. Polished oak. Later on more on cigar boxes and old leather. It's all very gentle but complex.
    • Taste
The palate is dry with lots of subtle chewy oaky notes. Sawdust followed with classic sweet candy with lots of maple syrup and brown sugar. Gingerbread and vanilla underpinnings showing lovely interplay between honey and blood oranges.
    • Finish
A long and warming aftertaste, with cinnamon and a little nutmeg. Pine at the end.
