Another interesting Arran that turned out better than it indicated to begin with.

    • Nose
      87 87
Typical sherry notes, dried fruits, dates, apricots, large dose of furniture polish, sweet toffee, good dose of seawater, hints of honey and vanilla, and also white flowers, maybe elderberry flowers. Light note of spearmint and lemon oil. Not a big nose, but a good composition. Later just the tiniest hint of sulphur shows up, along with dried herbs and hay.
    • Taste
      88 88
Some alcohol bite, it starts off strong, but then becomes warm and peppery, with a large dose of muscovado sugar. Oak joins in, with bitter tannins, but also a bit of acidity, sort of like a sour mash, along with an unpleasant note of cardboard. Here's hoping it gets better than this. The second chew brings notes of peppermint, lemon oil, light apple juice, smoke, leather, tobacco leaf, more wooden notes, old wood cabinet style. Still has that sour note to it. Freshly cut grass comes closer now. Third chew is considerably drier around the gums, and sweetness is reduced, but so is the sour mash. Wonderful right here. Smoke and black pepper come to the front, along with salty smoked kipper, pickled ginger, peppermint, dried herbs, and leather. Now it's very good, powerful and tasty.

Comes down nicely, leaves pepper, light toffee, fruit, light dates and apricots, dried herbs, freshly cut grass, nice smoke, leather, tobacco leaves, and pickled ginger. Great finish.
