  1. FritzeKrautman scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

A rather closed nose that reveals its fruitiness only hesitantly. The soap note on the palate is clear but not yet recognizable as an off-note. The bitterness is just not to be regarded as disturbing. Nevertheless, the whisky is quite interesting and for me it is in the upper middle class
    • Nose
      86 86
passion fruit, dust, coconut, vanilla, a hint of sulphur, quince, green tea, pear,
    • Taste
      85 85
Sweet and spicy, pear, honey, slightly soapy, a bit weak
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium-length, mouth-drying finish, increasing soapiness, clear bitterness, grapefruit, a little lacking in strength

scbp-6551, the overall temperament is slightly less delicious, and the wine is better than #9636 in all aspects. Although it has almost no strong sherry barrel style, it has a high degree of maturity and is sweet and balanced. I highly recommend everyone to try it.

      Lochside 1981 MM #9637
Rye-style cherries, grassy lemon zest and jasmine aromas, toasted almonds, full of sweetness, sweet green apple pie, green grapes, sweet white grapes, lees, fruity. 90
    • Taste
      88 88
Sweet like Moscato, condensed milk, white grape jam, mint, canned yellow peach, a little sour like sour plum soup and raw nuts, it seems to show some old sherry barrel characteristics here. With a hint of woody spice, just a little, finishing with roasted nuts. Weak alcohol, subtle oily feeling, full of sweetness, balanced flavor, no obvious irritation. p88b88
    • Finish
      87 87
Black pepper, hemp pepper, woody spices are accentuated. There is a slight bitterness, barley sugar and grapefruit peel white appear here. But there is a lot of licorice, the tannins are firmer, and the overall slightly astringent. 87

Delicious, goes in my direction, tropical tangy and as a counterpoint still nice crunchy malt and ginger, no missing notes and good maturity, despite 46% real volume behind it!
    • Nose
Subtle malt and dry grapefruit zests, ginger, some cardamom, heather honey and peach with a core, vanilla and lemongrass, later also subtle mango chips
    • Taste
Nice tangy grapefruit, meaty and zest as well, ginger, camphor, heather honey, peach and apricot with seeds, lemongrass, wax, a tick of white pepper, still unripe mango, in the distance a hint of charcoal, nicely integrated, white gummy bears
    • Finish
Ginger and white gummy bears, green tea and subtle malt, nicely aromatic and medium-long

Whether in terms of color or taste, I wouldn't have bet on a sherry refill here but more on a bourbon.
We are on the classic Lochside, very good, fruity and balanced.
    • Nose
      88 88
Quite typical Lochside nose with a nice fruitiness.
We start with a sharp attack on grapefruit, followed by lemon, pear, peach in syrup.
We have the sweet sweetness of elderflower.
      Vanilla, pepper, cardamom.
      Light smoke.
    • Taste
      89 89
In the mouth we are on the continuity of the nose.
      It's oily.
Lemon, fresh and candied, grapefruit, orange, tangerine. It's the right mix of citrus. In addition to those, we have a little Italian white grape.
      Vanilla, toffee, petit beure, pepper.
Light peat and smoke and very light metallic.
    • Finish
      87 87
Long finish on pepper, lemon, orange zest and a light smoke.

Whoa, this one is a stunner. Perfect old sherry notes in harmony with tropical fruits. Like a 96 Nevis meets an 89 Irish. Really lovely stuff. A surprise too because we weren’t expecting it.

Note to self; check out more Lochsides!

Copper coins, shoe polish certainly, lacquer, metal shop, perhaps a currant in there. But then on come the tropical fruits, lychee (my favourite), kiwi, honeydew, mango... love this.
    • Taste
      92 92
An onslaught of fruits. Lychee, mango, honeydew, kiwi, guava... a few dried dark berries in there. A nice heft on the palate. Good power at 46%. A little polish. The nose carries on to the palate.
    • Finish
      91 91
Long. Very very fruity (tropical) but then that nice leafy, shoe polish sherry. Wonderful dram, provided you like a fruit bomb.

glorious and underrated here in my opinion. 9/10 notes in progress...
    • Nose
bit of petrol (love that), slight wallpaper paste, sherry is hiding. watermelon, grapefruit, ...
    • Taste
really comes alive here. lovely dank tropical fruit, dank petrol soaked pineapple, slightly fermenting ... bit of crisp complex cider vinegar which really works with the petrol ...

This one exist with two different labels. Most common, and probably right, 19 years on top of label, but also with 18 years on top of label. The bottle on the photo shows 18 years.

  9. Luigisim scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

The colour is almost orange. Do not recall many drams shining orange

The nose smells of dune from a golf course and sawdust

The body is sweet and balanced with peat

The finish is medium short and a bit empty
