Clearly a wine or port cask when you see it in your glass. Pretty young as well.

Taste wise: expect a young whisky with substantial influence from a red (fortified?) wine cask. It's not that subtle, with quite some acidic and tannic notes. Certainly drinkable, but no winner.

It would be interesting to determine from which distillery this whisky is made. Usually it is from a nearby distillery, in this case it would mean Ballindalloch, Cragganmore or Glenfarclas. The fact that this will be a whisky with a partial ageing in some sort of red wine cask makes it very difficult to determine.
The distillate can be determined, but to me it's not that specific to tell the name of the distillery. I think that Glenfarclas hasn't got the orchard fruit in its distillate, Ballindalloch is not likely to accept releases from IB's. Whether this is a Cragganmore or yet another distillery remains unclear to me.

The nose reveals much of the youthful and spiritely character, with pear drop, lemon and lilly. There is some weight behind, which may come from the cask but could also be some heavy side from the distillate. It's not directly sulphuric but going in that direction with damp, almost meaty, fleshy notes. The longer the wait, the stronger it gets so I guess it's the cask influence. Alongside come various red fruits: from strawberry jam to blackcurrant.

Medium bodied, rather thin and very assertive (if not harsh) even after substantial time in the glass. The effect of the wood is there, with juicy and quite tannic freshness (cranberry juice), strawberry jam on toast, and fresh pear. Towards the end, grape seeds and ginger come into play, leading to a Campari like finale.

Moderate to long, tingling on the tongue because of the tannins. Prerry acidic too. Still with presence of the fruity character of the distillate, the cask overpowers with sour red fruit, tannins and spices. Campari on steroids.

The nose is the best and richest part of this whisky, in the taste it's less versatile and a bit too alcoholic still. Overall a pleasant whisky.

Fruity, fresh, lemon, Dreft detergent, floral too. Pretty strong with alcohol. Oranges, grapes.
    • Taste

Pretty strong, intense. Fruity, more red fruits now, berries. Some honey. A little alcohol bitterness.
    • Finish
      83 83
Still pretty powerful, red fruits, honey. Not too long. A little touch of tobacco in the end.
