0332-HIGHLAND QUEEN BLENDED SCOTCH WHISKEY 40%
...This tasting doesn't excite me enough to rush to the store and buy a whole bottle. If it's going to be poured over, say, a cocktail shaker, it doesn't matter whether it's old or new. The proverbial cola will cover everything. I have fond memories of the Sherry Cask version. An eight-year-old... hmmm, drinkable. I haven't had the current standard releases of Highland Queen, so I won't have a comparison with this "2012" version. I'll leave it at that. I'm glad I had the opportunity to try the "old" version of Highland Queen and that it was that small bottle.
    • Nose
...very delicate, but with a "cabbage" undertone. Slightly grainy, flat, winey. Fruity traces, but difficult to distinguish. I briefly "look" at the empty one - there's not much, but I smell freshly cut cabbage, a bit like leather? "carbonated." I return to the full one - with a stronger sniff, the distillate begins to make itself felt, a bit tea-like, but whatever you say, it's really flat. Nothing stands out. Let's not bother the nose. Let's try to "activate" the mouth.
    • Taste
...sweet, strongly oaky, spicy, and...spicy. It burns, warms, even burns a little. The whole thing stays "at the top" and doesn't go down the throat. Slightly creamy, but bitter. The second sip - a touch of honey, but that bitter aftertaste is omnipresent. Over time, it even becomes bitter and herbal. The burning sensation is constant, biting the tongue, and with this bitterness (something like a pill) it doesn't create any desire or pleasure to drink. It also leaves the impression of biting a freshly picked green twig. It's not very pleasant.
    • Finish
...I wasn't expecting anything other than a short, spicy, green, and woody flavor. It gives the impression of being sweet, but that's just an impression. Bitter, and now you can feel it's actually "vodka-like" and tannic.
