I like it very much - fantastic quality for old age - the style reminds me a bit of Craigellachie 23.
    • Nose
White oak with honey, heather, mild, soft, delicate, dried flowers, anise, so creamy - magical - old, orange, plum or pear, a hint of smoke, some tobacco
    • Taste
Delicate sweet flowers, soft - creamy spicy oak, pepper, white chocolate
    • Finish
still the great oak - a bit bitterness - reminiscent of dark chocolate. quite subtle complex spicy notes - quite filigree but long

Wow. 89 points. I could not have imagined that a 12-year-old whisky with 40% to such a thing is capable.
    • Nose
Whisky from another world. Acts like another spirit. Creamy, sweet honey aromas, herbs. Ripe, bright fruits on the threshold of overripe. Mango, passion fruit. Vanilla. Herbal sweetener. A little anise, fennel. The sweetness is incredibly deep and complex, difficult to describe.
    • Taste
sweet, slightly bitter, spicy. Herbs, deep, spicy, dark honeys, vanilla. Creamy.
    • Finish
Passion fruit and again a lot of spicy, dark honey flavors, gentle, bitter oak spice.

I got this bottle as a present at my baptism in 1997, and opened it in 2018 :-)

A very well-rounded whisky. There absolutely no burn in the nose or mouth and there's lots of complexity at 40%! I would like some more intensity on the flavours, though.
    • Nose
      89 89
A very round, easy nose. I get sweet, fresh pears and light peat smoke. Delicious vanilla and very malty notes. Caramel slowly creeps forward. Some oak
    • Taste
      90 90
Easy-going peat smoke, hard candy, fruits, red pepper and oak. A very round, full-bodied, oily whisky which has a suprising amount of flavour for its' 40%! It's just really pleasant and just makes you want more.
    • Finish
      87 87
A medium-short finish with oak. Surprisingly, this isn't the bitter sort of oak, but a much more gentle and pleasant taste. Also, some subtle sherry notes and spiciness. Reminds me of mediterranean herbs.

  5. St. Pauli scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

This is a pleasant and complex whisky. It's well-behaved but certainly not introverted. There is a lot to smell, and it behaves not aggressive at all in the mouth. There is not one element that is the key selling point in this whisky, but the selling point is the overall character and complexity.
    • Nose
      86 86
Very complex with earth, peat, barley, shortbread, honey, mint, wood, almond, orange zest and ripe red apple. It's like walking through a cool and damp dunnage warehouse somewhere close to the sea. Very "natural" but o so pleasant.
    • Taste
      85 85
Medium body. Rather dominated by fruit (orange, mango) and honey. Later, it gets an additional note of wax, heather, allspice and peat.
    • Finish
      85 85
Moderately spicy (cinnamon, cumin), with still the tropical and subtropical fruit, a malty backbone and a trace of mineral, earthy and sooty peat.
