Not a sherry bomb in any way. It's interesting that it states a first fill sherry puncheon. Perhaps a very short finishing or a very inactive cask. In any case, this is a dram more influenced by the American oak. Not to take anything away from it though, it is very good still. Value (£75) : 5/10
    • Nose
Sweet vanilla and floral heather honey upfront. Fresh citrus, green apples, crisp pear and green banana notes are present. Caramel sweetness. Herbs and spices then come to the forefront, cinnamon, thyme and loads of cloves and cardamom. A touch of yeasty bread. Some light heather smoke with some black peppercorn spice as well. Soaked wood chips. It improves with some dilution as I find the alcohol to bee a tad overpowering upfront.
    • Taste
Good silky, creamy mouthfeel. Classic heather honey. Lovely sweet vanilla and buttery caramel. Some malt notes of fresh hay and barley water. Some lemons and tangerines. A touch of salinity. The charred bitter tannic notes of oak then come in to balance the sweetness with loads of kitchen spices. Water definitely tones down the peppery heat and improves things.
    • Finish
Quite tannic and drying. Spicy with black pepper heat. Still sweet with lingering vanilla and toffee. The baking spices carry over, cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. Bitter roasted coffee note and again a touch of heather smoke.
