  1. Whisk(e)yCharlie did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

One of the more harmonious pairings of a Sherry cask with a whisky. Despite spending 13 years in a 1st Fill Sherry Barrel, the distinct Glenlivet character shines front and center, with Sherry acting as a partner, accentuating certain elements and introducing some novel others.

From nose to finish, you are taken on a long, evolving journey beginning at confectionary sweets, passing through a cornucopia of berries, stone fruit, and spices, then landing in an earthy semi-sweet place recalling pairings of dark chocolate and fine cordials. All the while a bright, rather clean, traditionally Glenlivet character forms the backbone around which these other flavors are explored.
    • Nose
Just from pouring the glass, rich, dark fruits were evident from a distance. Leaning in: new leather. Plum. Wet dough. Fresh baked cupcakes with frosting.
    • Taste
Malt and Sherry acting as a partners, rather than the cask influence taking center stage. There are absolutely sherry and fruity notes here: strawberry, plum, apricot. As well as plenty of rich spice: cinnamon and ginger especially. This all rides on a bed of golden malt that's bright, especially given a 1st Fill Sherry maturation.
    • Finish
The finish leans more into spices and nuttiness with bittersweet dark chocolate undertones. It is not altogether sweet here, more so dry, almost earthy, and layered, with waves of flavors undulating in and out. After some moments, there is a distinct callback to Cognac filled dark chocolate. Especially for its proof, the finish is long and evolving.
