Craigellachie 31 years, 52.2% alc. Original bottling (Batch 04-6137). Ageing: Bourbon casks

Nose: Dry summer meadows and cereals catch my eye first, followed by mountain peaches and apricots, as well as a little apple pulp. The grasses are joined by herbs and nuts, I'm thinking now of salted walnuts, camphor, wormwood and faintly mustard seeds. Then a balanced aroma between peach and antique oak lingers.

Palate: Intense and full-bodied, the long maturation packs a punch here with a lot of oak. Juicy fruit aromas and walnuts, a few almonds. Thanks to the oak cargo, I can't really grab the fruit. There are also softwoods, bamboo shoots and finally quite sweet vanilla. Anise pastilles round off the taste.

Finish: Very long, very sweet. Dry woods, aniseed pastilles, children's liquorice.

Conclusion: The whisky was highly praised and, in my opinion, rightly so. As they age, these Craigellachies are just magical. 92/100 points (2022)
