This has an extra layer of complexity over that for me with this wonderful greasy, old antique store note really driving the entire experience of this whisky with other notes being carried along as passengers.
Chestnut puree, old leather/old antique store, tobacco pouch, grease, paraffin and toffee. Later there is chalk, aspirin, sand and a tiny menthol and herbal note.
With Water: nose is fresher, toffee becomes more pronounced and grease oil begins to dominate.
After 15 minutes: Wax, wax, grease, some zest and more wax. It's almost as if this has been replaced with a clynelish from refill bourbon! The change is huge and immensely satisfying. A chameleon malt going between my two favourite distilleries.
Initial arrival mostly on chestnut puree, old leather, tobacco pouch, musty/sour chalk, wax, oranges and grease.
With water: Juicier, orange and orange peels, getting more citric
After 15 minutes: grease and oil take over along with oranges and wax
dry, similar to the taste but with more wax and oranges in the finish, no grease and a slight nuttyness
