The windows let expect some volume, the color is auspicious. When he first crawls in, he is still promising, but in terms of taste and in the finish, he unfortunately lets up.
    • Nose
      87 87
Raisins, sherry, roasted almonds, light oak, some caramel and vanilla are to be heard. Amazingly, a slightly dry - grassy touch
    • Taste
      84 84
A strange touch of shower gel is on the first taste on the tongue, then a delicate sherry note, some vanilla, malt and orange. He looks very round and soft
    • Finish
      81 81
short medium length, a little sherry, which flies relatively fast, light sweetness and a little malt remain

Despite being slightly dry, this palatable whisky initially lives off the nose. Very complex and enjoyable! The taste is also very pleasing, but unfortunately not as complex. However, the finish weakens due to the low alcohol strength for this cask selection and weakens the balance.
    • Nose
Dates and dried figs hit immediately, lots of vanilla, vineyard peaches, spiced orange, floury "Red Delicious" apples, malt is clearly present, blackcurrants, thick-cut orange marmalade with cinnamon and vanilla, spice slices, a sniff in the potato cellar
    • Taste
Malty attack, lots of caramel, dark milk chocolate, Demerara, peaches, dried apricots, fig and walnut bread, dates, a little tobacco, roasted coffee, plums
    • Finish
Rather short, coffee with milk, black tea, the floury apple again, vanilla, marzipan potatoes, caramelized almond slivers, but also dry woody, one or two cloves, a hint of apricots and peaches

First of all: I like the house style of Dalmore, I think Richard Petersen is super cool, I know that there is always a lot of mass production in the foreground and that this distillery still doesn't produce any "integrity malt".
Besides, I like Ricard better than Pernod.
Despite all this, no Distillery Dalmore can burn down the space it holds.
    • Nose
      86 86
The post-maturation in sherry casks and the apparently appropriate portion of European oak casks is noticeable. A lot of iron spice, a lot of acorns, with a little bitterness already on the nose. I like the profile! A few dried fruits that could go in the direction of raisins, orange blossom, nutmeg, garam masala. Of course, I would also be happy at this point to have a slightly higher drinking strength. But you could also be happy that McDonald's could fill you up with hamburgers, or that SUVs only use an average amount of resources. People want it, people get it.
    • Taste
      86 86
The taste connects seamlessly to the nose. Wonderful woody notes paired with that Dalmore's orange blossom quality.
Very nice! Here, too, spices play a wonderful refining role. From the initial maturation in Bürgen barrels you don't really notice anything at all.
    • Finish
      84 84
The finish is short, as to be expected on the oaky side. It gives a very mature impression. In conclusion, I have to say, a great highlander. Also stands out very well against various Speysiders. That's not to say that this one is better or worse, it's just different. And you can tell.

Aroma: sweet raisins, a variety of nuts which are dominated by walnut and rotten (!), Dry grains, dusty sacking, exotic fruits with rotten, burnt caramel, cocoa with milk, buckwheat honey, tobacco leaf, noble wood, humidor, notes of spice for clay tea, tobacco leaves (cinnamon, cloves, orange peel). Quite a complex, but delicate flavor, slowly opening up.

Taste: burnt caramel, thick berry jam, hay walnuts, sweet spectrum spices, chocolate notes, wood tannins. Quite simply and delicately, but harmoniously and organically.

Finish: light spices that taste like anise, coffee with milk, walnut partitions, pleasant wood, a little shorter than the average.

    Rating: 86.5

It wouldn't be so bad if there was no vegetable taint.
    • Nose
Dried fruits, celery, orange peel, walnut, vanilla and spicy oak.
    • Taste
Fruits, sherry, cocoa, spicy oak, vegetables and coffee.
    • Finish
      Medium length, bittersweet.

Taste it, but somehow completely without corners and edges! Sherry, raisins, bit of citrus in the background. Some mocha and oranges and very light black pepper in the mouth. Departure pretty short. By the way, ok, but not more.

    Initially, delicate light bodied (‘brittle’),
grapey, sherried dram, big on fruit (orange and bubblegum) and damp wood/
earth floor.Through the bottle the fruit declines. It needs a while to open - when sherry really moves into the fore and the development come to a full stop. The dram opens rapidly into good quality
sherry/ aged bual madeira notes. I took 6m to finish the bottle, towards the
end it took on a Christmas Pudding aroma (with a brittle mouthfeel and without
the body and richness). Its a nice enough dram to have on the shelf and dib in and out of, but at the UK price of around £50 (Mar 2016) - too much to be a repeat purchase. There are too many cheaper alternatives which trounce it - like the Aberlour A'Bunadhs and the Benriach 12 yo sherried. Perhaps they need to think about ncf and a slightly more % vol. Still 85 points from me...

I have revised my rating for this, it is horrible.

This must have been a bad batch but surely no quality control is this ineffective.

Looking at the scores for this, on average it should be much better?

One of my lowest ever scores at 48?

  23. Jonkers scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

A delicious Dalmore. Fuller and firmer than for example the 12-year-old. Excellent as an aperitif.
    • Nose
Butter and esters. Also mocca, creme brulee and chocolate.
    • Taste
Sweet vanilla. Also a little liquorice. Somewhat salty.
    • Finish
      Medium and sweet.

  24. EarlMobile scored this whisky 81 points Expert Junior

Actually, a pretty nice whisky with sherry influence. Overall, I can not convince myself completely, because this whisky is neither exciting, complex or otherwise offers something outstanding / special. Of course, the 40% Vol. Also do their part.

One of the worst whiskies I have ever tasted, absolutely awful. I scored it at 53 points and that was being generous.

Utter rubbish, Dalmore should hang there heads in shame for selling this crap.
    • Nose
Weird, it smells artificial and manufactured on big sherry, prunes, black cherry but in truth the nose is not good.
Smells of cheese and damp wood.
    • Taste
Sherry and not much else, too thin on the palate for me.
    • Finish
Who cares when its this bad?

  27. Thermidor scored this whisky 76 points Connoisseur

Somehow the fact that it is so slick and inoffensive manages to offend me. Although there are no off notes in this one I can't find that much detail or uniqueness in it either, and it definitely could use something to make it more memorable.

I’ll admit it, I was surprised by this one. The nose is the strongest quality in my opinion, but the taste and finish are more than decent as well. I like the sweet/bitter balance and the zesty quality of this whisky. Everything seems to work well together. Compared to the 12 year old this is a definite step up, and I think this might be my favourite Dalmore to date.
    • Nose
Fresh orange zest and chocolate. A nice, sweet malty note and coffee (faintly). Juicy fruit. Darker fruits, like plums and berries. Not too strong though, like in some heavier sherry whiskies. This retains a light freshness in the nose, very interesting. The chocolate note is getting stronger now, like a mocha cream.
    • Taste
Quite sweet on arrival. Quickly after a slight bitter note of spices and the coffee is back as well. After that sweet again. Juicy still, like a berry jam or marmalade, even gummy bears somehow. A wine-like dryness on the gums, which exposes the malt flavour. Chocolate covered orange zesty sweetness now, very nice.
    • Finish
The bitter note is back, which in this case is not a bad thing. It keeps this whisky from becoming overly sweet, which might be off putting. The coffee/light spice bitterness lingers, together with that chocolate/citrus sweetness. Together they form a nice finish, I’d say medium length.

What to say about this bottling: it's smooth. Not a qualification I'd normally use for a whisky, but there's just not that much more to say about this. Not offensive in any way, no real character either. This would really, really benefit A LOT from a better presentation: get rid of the chill filtration, colouring and low ABV please.

Overall another fine edition from Dalmore. However it is a little smoother and more refined than the 12 but it isn't that much "better" if at all. My experience may be dampened in that I have a brand new 15 I just opened when writing this review, as I do with every new bottle, but my 12 is about 6 months old and has really gotten quite a bit better overtime and I can't really compare the two right now without thinking the 12 is a better buy for the money. However the new limited edition cigar malt is a clear winner compared to 12 and 15. 90/100
    • Nose
Soft nose, doesn't really need any water. Sherry notes orange citrus, slight leathery notes as well.
    • Taste
Light body, cinnamon spice, allspice, orange marmalade, dried apricot
    • Finish
Smooth, chocolate on front of the palate, pleasant notes of citrus emerge on the back of the palate as well.

  37. Alex scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

Good body at only 40%, with nice citrus (mainly oranges), chocolate and nutty notes framed by sour and bitter oak which disturbs the balance

  38. TDMartijn scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

Nice and full-bodied whisky with a strong nose and taste. A good example of a sherried-whisky (although it feels a bit artificial).
At 46%, non-colored and non-chill filtered it would have scored 3 points more in my book.

  44. granella2003 scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Dark amber color. The tasting gives a very soft aroma with fruity notes partecipates is remarkable memories of smoke. The taste is full, dry with hints of peat and malt. The notes of burnt caramel, orange and mandarin, oak, make it seem oldest of 12 years.

  45. granella2003 scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Pleasant and sweet aromas of sherry, toffee, grain, nectar and vanilla followed by rich tones of oak, orange, smoke and a rich variety of herbs
    • Taste
Soft oak and vanilla with full tones of orange complemented by drying herbs and full tones of sherry, grain and vanilla
    • Finish
Long and spicy aftertaste of orange, vanilla, nuts and sherry.

  46. m884 scored this whisky 81 points Expert Senior

Nose: Slaty, oak, a bit red (port?) wine, a bit sour, fruity - dry sherry

Mouth: very very smooth, sherry, a bit oak

Finish: a bit short, sherry, tad oak, burnt caramel

Comments: Insanely smooth, seriously. Very nice Sherry and Oak combination. While it is very rich in flavor in the mouth it suffers a bit from the 40% vol. but not too much. All in all I quite like it, at 43% it would get some more points.

  47. Dramnation did not rate this whisky Member Junior

The well-made malt yet heavyly sherry-based character gives me the impression that it could harbour so much more complex flavours yet it refuses to open up fully. Even with lots of water. The whisky will complement dark 70% chocolate or chocolate with orange-flavoured filling perfectly.
    • Nose
A full and fat aroma of sherry and blood oranges with a chocolate tone. Some spicy undertones.
    • Taste
A soft, smooth but full-on attack of toffee caramel, blood oranges, chocolate and sherry.
    • Finish
Long with malty and light coffee tones.
