A butt naked Highland Park. Indeed, this is all about the distillate and very refreshing whisky between all the first fill violence. It’s straightforward in on vanilla, minerals, wet stones, coastal aromas and a nice layer of gentle peat. Not overly complex but very solid at what it promises and delivers.

Highland Park - re-racked prior to vatting.

In the words of PC Plod - nothing to taste here - move on.
    • Nose

      Salty, iodine notes.
    • Taste

      Nothing jumps out - diluted.

      Short.

I liked it but wouldn't buy a bottle of it. There's not much to discover but a bit of sweetness, sea salt and maritime notes combined with fruity notes. Doesn't stay very long and fades to nothing. A nice dram to drink after an eventfull day just to enjoy without thinking too much about it.

Perfect value for money if you like the mineral side of Highland Park. This is all about spirit and no cask influence, Serge would love it ;)

In the evening, I walked to the Highland Park, and the sea breeze was cold and tidal. The reefs of the beach are glistened with ore, and countless high and low tides have left circles of salt and frost. The bonfire in the distance was misty, and there were children singing and dancing around, with loud voices. Twist a few thorn fruits from the tree at will, half-life sweetened, and some vanilla flavor.

Elixir Distillers has released some interesting and affordable bottles in their "Parcel No series" over the recent years. In these price-up driven days, this series is very welcome.
    • Nose
      87 87
Fresh and fruity nose with a full load of vanilla and coastal notes.
    • Taste
      85 85
Oily and trick arrival. Coastal and salty notes dominate the taste. Fruity and sweet flavors remain in the back.
    • Finish
      84 84
Odd finish. Salty notes again with mild spices. Medium long.

Quite one dimensional in general; ok given the price.

Floral, fruits, salt, grass, peaty smoke (comes with taste) with soft citric zest and caramel cut.

  14. vlad78 scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

An interesting and versatile whisky. It took a couple of steps to become.
    • Nose
      85 85
Sweet, with sea salt breaking through from the tidal wind, with zest, with a slight smell of approaching swamp.
    • Taste
      85 85
Sweet, astringent, like you just bit into a quince. The taste of ripe fruit.
    • Finish
      86 86
The aftertaste is excellent! Sweet, with a little salt. Long.

I am not an regular HP drinker, because it is usually too peaty for me. This one however could quite please me.
    • Nose
      87 87
Very mineral and a little farmy. Some fresh cut grass. A ltittle salty and very slightly peaty in the background.
    • Taste
      87 87
Sweet and a very little peat. Butterscotch and vanilla icecream. A little salted nuts are in the background.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium length. Quite bourbon influenced. Loads of vanilla, cream and fudge.

  16. Cask1988 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Most HP’s I’ve had before where way more outspoken, bold and a little more ‘rough’. This one however is a good example of a Highland Park being a good and modest son in law. A beautiful Scotch mist appears already with some time in the glass, without water. It turns even more cloudy with a wee drop.
    • Nose
This is a rather bald Highland Park. It is light, delicate and gentle. Fresh sea breeze. It gives mainly fresh tropical fruits, vanilla and wet stone minerals. There is some saltiness in it. Also the earthy touch is definitely there. A shy whiff of peat in the background.
    • Taste
On the palate it has a controlled arrival. It is fresh and light. The term sea breeze seems in place again. After a while, more of the peat shows as well as a layer of oak wrapped in a rather classic bourbon barrel touch. With a drop of water the taste gets a more filled body which gives a better mouthfeel. Also the mineral side shows more after adding water.
    • Finish
In the finish this HP continues being a gentleman. The finish is medium length. Which not surprises me because of the light body it has. It gives oak, peat, mud some lemon and gentle spices. It ends a tad dry mineral-like, maybe chalky is a better word here. The one will find this pleasant, the other won’t like it that much. I find it pleasant.

Good summer whisky, easy to drink, unpretentious.
    • Nose
      87 87
Very engaging: light peat, iodine, wet stone, vegetal notes.
    • Taste
      85 85
The mouth entry is in line with the nose, the peat gradually fading.
    • Finish
      84 84
The finish leaves the unpleasant bitterness of a green woody note.

Very pale, the lightest yellow - and with water it clouds considerably to reflect the sky. This is all about spirit and zero cask. No wonder HP resort to excessive cask finishes and maximum marketing bullshit to make it into something they can sell.

No peat, no smoke. REALLY there is nothing.

EID should know better. Dont waste your money.
    • Nose
Spirit, new make, mint. Raw, more like high quality grappa than whisky.
    • Taste
immediately sweet with sugar almonds, again grappa, not that good to be honest.
    • Finish
sharp biting finish. mint. nothing you want to try again. It's just not whisky.

A surprisingly light, fruity and peaty mistery malt from Orkney. On the nose is vanilla, tropical fruits. Very easy to drink for me..an excellent price / value ratio. Highly recommended! Dont't think, just have a nother dram. You can't feel the 48% abv.

This is a tasty small batch (5 casks) from Orkney. A good balance of maltiness, lovely peat elements and a bunch of fruits.
    • Nose
      88 88
sweet fruits, peach, nectarine, mango, some lemon & lime, vanilla, chalk, maltiness and a musty earthiness.
    • Taste
      88 88
Summer/Tropical fruit flavors, peach, mango, a bitter pineapple, grapefruit, some spices, pepper, anise, peppermint, maltiness, chalk, some seaweed, a bit medicinal and leather.
    • Finish
      87 87
Spices like pepper, anise, malty notes, some sweetness like candied apples, peach and a lingering dry ash finish.
