Flawless, a fairly intensive ex-bourbon ripening with some unusual flavors.
    • Nose
      92 92
Sweet tree resin, wood varnish, ripe citrus fruits (especially kumquat), black bread, icing, caramel, kvass.
    • Taste
      92 92
Intense resinous-sweet; ripe citrus, slightly numbs the tongue and mouth.
    • Finish
      91 91
Medium length with resin, black bread and ripe citrus.

Edit: Have now tried this Glenburgie in direct comparison with a 20-year-old Linkwood and a 22-year-old Glenrothes - both of which appear much younger and are almost inedible after the Glenburgie. Therefore I increase to 92 points here.

@van Wees: Please fill another barrel next year, at the age of 24 or 25. And with a similar volume percentage.

PS. Now tasted several times, and I am puzzling more and more about the very modest reviews.

While the nose on this was subtle, it had a wonderful complex mix of dusty dry earth and tropical fruits which slowly built over time. The palate was an absolute killer with an oily and bursting with juicy tropical fruit-driven profile. A faint bit of the earthiness on the nose came through on the palate which helped give some extra depth and complexity to the overall fruitiness. The finish was really the only weakness of this bottle— it simply did not last long enough. Overall, this was a brilliant Glenburgie.

Mental Image: Country Roadside Fruit Stand
    • Nose
Dusty earth with loads of mellow tropical fruits. Prickly pear, cactus jelly, kiwi, and jabong (or pomelo) fruit. Desert flowers and hibiscus give it an almost herbal floral quality. Pineapple juice and sour apples float in with a wave of sweet tang.
    • Taste
Medium bodied with a bit of waxiness and mineral oil. Bursting with tropical fruits— ripe guava, bruised papaya, mangos, and sweet white pineapple. Herbal notes come through with licorice and musty sweet tropical forest compost. Salty homemade vanilla bean ice cream on the back end.
    • Finish
Medium length dried citrus rinds and astringent pith.

Hey, that’s really nice! It’s so intensely exotic – the fruit, the flowers, the spices. I love that style of dram. The sort of exotic-wood-oil note in the midpalate is divine. It reminds me of the very best of Arran, or maybe Ben Nevis a little. Oh, and don’t add any water! It freshened up the palate a bit, but at the expense of the richness and savouriness.

Nose: Distinguished. Gentle nutty sweetness and warm spice. Memories of my grandma cooking pineapple slices in butter, rum, and brown sugar for dessert. Lots of vanilla and nutmeg, cinnamon, toasted coconut, and graham crackers. Kiwi, ripe pears, baked apples, elderflower, and lemon zest. Nougat and slivered almonds.

Palate: Thick texture. Sweet and tropical up front: loads of sweet pineapple, granadilla, succulent hibiscus and orange blossoms. Beautiful nuttiness in the middle: exotic woods, dark bread, honey nougat, macadamia nuts, nutmeg, and cocoa powder. Herbal, floral, and slightly bitter on the back end, like eating a greenhouse.
A dribble of water adds some fresh tangerine, shortcake, banana cream pie, and maybe some sesame oil.

Finish: Sweet and rich as the bitterness dissipates. Citrus peels, caramel, sponge toffee, madeleines, and vanilla. It turns quite malty, then trails of into wax and grape skins.
