Unique profile that I really find superior to the sum of its parts. Not any sherried Clynelish is well-balanced ; this one is. A little bit of tannicity prevents it from being really grand.
    • Nose
      92 92
A ravishing composition that's just not to be found anywhere else. Old school, dare I say. Earth and tahini, a lot of fresh walnuts, something like an oxidative wine (probably close to vin Jaune). These aspects are counterbalanced by some rounder elements that really make the whole picture so charming : polished woods (it feels "waxy" in a way but without really smelling like wax, hard to describe), orange blossom, baklava's. Aeration makes it even more expressive with ideas of blueberries and blood orange, echoing the woody waxiness. Even further down we have complex notes of pine needles and rooibos, this is really complex yet very cohesive, superb nose that ressembles nothing else.

The attack is initially quite fresh but gets slightly tannic for a while, before getting back on a duo of earthy and aromatic woody tones. Walnuts, forest soil, humus, then gets very waxy (frankly waxy this time), oxidative wine again. It might be a little less complex than the nose but the texture and the ability it has to hold its profile for a long time are remarkable. Further sips have some more of the nose's aromatic elements, with beloved notes of orange blossom and even strawberries (maybe rather a strawberry syrup).
    • Finish
      90 90
Very nice woody wax transitioning to a more citrusy register (hurray !) with bitter pink grapefruit. The bitter and lightly woody side of this citrus side might evoke some kind of IPA. The waxy woods are still hanging there, bringing a little tannic drought, but all in all it is very clean and especially very long.
