[Quick festival note] Wow, wow, wow. I'm not a sherry freak at all yet I can assure you that this is just bursting with quality. Big sherry + big wood + Benrinnes put together could have a million reason to go wrong. It didn't. It's just a perfect sherry. Zero off-note. Seriously, very strong recommendation on this one. The price is heavy, indeed it is, but the last time Macallan or Glendronach proposed a sherry of such high quality, it was literally for five to ten times this price. So, think about it. Anyone who's looking for a big, fat and flawless sherry with hardly any woody notes (and ready to pay the price) should seriously consider this. 91 today, but I could see myself scoring it 92 (which is saying a lot). I've got a larger sample coming in a few weeks, I'll revisit it.

Well okay, that's our winner of the night indeed (together with the new Clynelish 1995 23yo DD). Big fat old sherry like in the good old days. Superb profile, very integrated. Not an *ounce* of wood, just superb sherry. Vintage red vermouth, venison with porcini sauce, leather, bitter cocoa. Splendid fat and complex sherry that's winking at more "old school" profiles. Super spontaneous, zero sulfur, and even some distillery character shining through : almost a miracle.

Splendid again. The arrival is soft but soon to begin a tremendous crescendo in power but in a slightly sweeter and fruitier register. Raspberry mostly, always a joy. Some buttery leather and cocoa to round it off. Blood orange and still this almost herbal feeling of red vermouth, reminding me of Gancia (but less bitter). Again, it's a miracle but there really is no wood "per se" to talk about, it's all about the big sherry and the distillate.

Still perpetuates that vermouth feeling initially with acidic red fruits and citrus skins, and then the miracle goes on as it transitions to super fresh notes of citrusy hops, white mint and lemon balm. This is really super fresh, makes you want to take another sip right afterwards.

Wonderfully versatile on the nose. Despite 56%, you don't notice the alcohol at all. In the mouth, he likes it even more diluted
    • Nose
      92 92
In the beginning dates with a hint of leather. The whole thing goes into a dark fruit basket with a lot of blackberry. There are also oak wort and soy sauce as well as Chinese plum wine. I have no sulfur, maybe some match head.

The nose is wonderfully versatile. The alcohol is holding back nicely
    • Taste
      91 91
The start is very strong undiluted. Great chocolate notes with light leather and lots of nuts. The mouthfeel is almost syrupy and allows beautiful fruit notes (blackberry, strawberry, black currant and pineapple) to pass through. Great Olorososherry with light sulfur that enriches the whisky with an additional nuance without overlaying the rest.

Nice long finish with a lot of power

    remarkable color!
    nose:
macerated grapes, a little grassy, mold, dry and used leather, soggy wood, caramel, a little mushroom, slightly maderized wine sauce, strong and intense; return of cooked vanilla, very sweet
    mouth:
sweet malt, a little caramel, a little strawberry wine and its syrup, spices a little peppery, leather, dust, some dark chocolate back with the spices again, a little camphor too and finally the alcohol which warms the palate, a little cooked almond and its kernel
the fruity side made of macerated and macerated on red and black fruits at the same time, which lasts
    finish:
long, hot, tenacious, on soggy and dried malt, slightly cooked, on sherry fruit, dark chocolate and mushrooms in a caramel base,
    long and lasting finish.

Great, delicious, dark fruits, no alcohol, sweet herbs, Christmas cookies, minimal Grainnote for me funny way.
    • Taste

Cool and pleasant, alcohol well integrated but noticeable, after a few seconds, the jerks in the mouth, you can feel the 56.3% but not negative.
    • Finish
      89 89
Intensive, medium-long, strong sherry, slightly woody, slightly bitter, sticks in the mouth and pulls with neat whining nice and long after

I'm uping my score to a light 92 upon re-tasting of a well aerated sample. This requires your time. This is not a sweety-woody, mellow, uncomplex sherry cask that you sip lazily in front of your favourite TV show.

It's a splendid (but very demanding) sherry cask that imparted its massive influence withtout ever doing it under the form of sugar or wood. The cask is then allowed to dialog with a fantastically resilient distillate (that is still very much there if you know what to expect from it).

Absolutely fantastic but experiences can vary. It believe it has to breathe in the bottle (or the sample) quite a bit to reveal its full charms, and you have to be in a good tasting shape and mood, but if that's the case, you're in for one of the most "analytically rewarding" big sherry that I have had recently.

Color: marvelous mahogany, coppery reflections, greenish.

Nose: terribly well integrated alcohol, red fruit, superb fruit compote, nuts, a little almond. Precious wood, a little spice, pepper. Everything remains very gourmet. There are a few earthy notes.

Palate: wild strawberry, a sweet, herbaceous side, not too much negative influence of the wood. A little clove, even licorice.

Final: gourmet notes of banana, but rather medium or even short.

Comments: even if it remains very good, I expected less linear, a little more complex for this price.

Quite a sherry bomb this is. Its oscillating between bitter and sweet, mixed with juicy overtones. Lovely Benrinnes if you love sherry. Also, no sulfur to be found here, for those who wonder.
    • Nose
      90 90
Sour-sweet. Tons of raisins, dried figs, and prunes. Chocolate-coated oak chips, crushed grape skin, and melted caramel sauce. Juicy honeydew juice, orange jams, and well-aged brandy.
    • Taste
      91 91
Juicy arrival. Immediately drying, with tons of eucalyptus and sweet licorice. Then it bounces back and your saliva has a chance to return. Sugary tannins are meandering to coconut and cocoa powder. Milk chocolate? Bounty bars perhaps.
    • Finish
      90 90
Medium-long. Tannic, yet it is not overly bitter, with herbal teas and honeyed menthol, as well more blood orange liqueurs.
