  1. HammerHead scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Head to head with the remainder of my sample of 1998 23 yo Wilson&Morgan. This is very good, but it still pales somewhat compared to the extreme farmy notes and thick liquorice like sherry overcoat of the WM bottling.
    • Nose
      89 89
A rich nose, earthy peat, mild farminess, wet leaves, general sourness, glazed meat, juniper berries with a whiff of sauerkraut, tobacco, hansaplast and slight rubber are in the background, also sour lemons, a syrupy sweet caramel note, some stale nuttiness and a hint of cinnamon.
    • Taste
      90 90
Oily and greasy, clear black pepper, dirty earthy peat, more farmy than the nose, still somewhat sour, but also some more sweet syrupy flavours. Butterscotch candy, citrus, blackberry, overbrewed tea, slight tobacco and clove.
    • Finish
      91 91
Very long: sweet and sour fruit syrup, dark chocolate and some black liquorice, a pinch of black pepper, ending on bitter charred and smoked oak notes.
