I tasted this in a blind tasting.
It's good, but not my taste. A little too thin and bitter.
    • Nose
Slight sherry influence. Dusty wood, syrup. Apricot, plum. Sweet yellow fruit.
    • Taste
Apricot jam, spicy (cocoa, mint). Bitter mandarin. Nuts. Dry.
    • Finish
      Mint, bitter

Like any whisky from the Orkney distillery, it is built around five pillars of production: slow-burning peat, manual malting milling, storage in a burnt sherry cask, maturation in a cool island climate and a slow harmonization process. "
I found such a note in my notebook. Where did I get it from? I do not remember. Once upon a time (much earlier, before I acquired it), I probably had to read and write down a characteristic mention of it.
This whisky is complete for me. It has everything it should have. There is a smell, a great taste, a long finish and all of it quite expressive with a delicate halo of smoke, making an amazing impression.
A bit of water improves the aromas, the taste remains unchanged, while the finish is more blunt with more sweetness, but there is also a sip of young oak. A big plus!
The expensive whisky doesn't always have to be good. In the case of Highland Park 18 YO, this theory fails completely at the very beginning of this statement. I recommend! ????
    • Nose
delicate, fruity, cherries, cigarette smoke, slightly dusty
    • Taste
quite sweet, cherry, honey, chocolates with sherry liquor, smoky peat coating
    • Finish
long with a hint of salted butter, toffee, very slightly biting at the end

Less refined than the version from a few years ago (ID 46257), less sherry casks involved.
    • Nose
      84 84
Apple, soft malt, soft peat, vanilla and citrus. In the style of NAS expressions like the Svein, not really what you'd expect from an 18-year-old.
    • Taste
      86 86
Some more signs of maturity. Tobacco, peat, malt, vanilla, citrus and apple.
    • Finish
      86 86
      Malt, vanilla, citrus and cocoa.
