Holy moly where do I begin?

Huge, fresh, juicy, peaty, custardy goodness on this 7 year old Glen scotia.

I find it odd that this isn't advertised as well as it should be on SMWS's website. This is a gem with incredible value, perfect for any peated whisky fan who wants to experiment with something similar but still different from Islay whisky.
    • Nose
Big, funky peat smoke along with intense salted caramel. Slightly herbal, very coastal nose. An absolutely delightful balance between marine and bakery-like characteristics. Water softens the nose drastically, increases umami notes like seaweed and mushrooms cooked in butter with a sprinkle of salt, along with fresh vanilla custard.
    • Taste
Magnificent intensity neat, but in no way is the alcohol prickly or poorly integrated. This is very much different from other peated whiskies, in a sense that the overt peat smoke isn't as obvious, citric and precise as the peated whiskies you find on Islay. Instead it's more of a meaty, kippery, creamy peat smoke. A lot juicier in my opinion. The medicinal notes that SMWS describe are certainly there, but unlike Laphroaig, here they are in the background and aren't dominating the experience. The balance between the spirit and the cask is simply superb.
    • Finish
The finish is really defined by a lingering white pepper note. The marine characteristics start to dissipate and all that is left is very crisp, yet full flavored peat. It's still a young whisky so the finish certainly isn't as long as one may like, but it the whisky certainly demands to be sipped again in order to refresh the palate with all these lovely flavors.
