Nose: The rather discreet smoke on a common Ardmore, is here even more. The reason is simple, sherry is ubiquitous. Maybe I'll go a little bit hard, but we might feel like we're on a Glendronach or something of that lineage. We have notes for a whisky of this age, heavy with sherry, waxed wood, dried fruits, prunes. There is a caramelized background, definitely this Ardmore gives information, which can deceive on his age, I would give him to the blind more than his five years.

Palate: For its age and its volume of alcohol, quite frankly, it is hyper melted in the mass. The impact of maturation is impressive, I was expecting a great discovery, but it is beyond my expectations. The fans of sherry monster should find pleasure. There is a mix of dried fruits, prunes, dates, a more acidulous character like that found on some coffee a little strong. Wrapping, with a powerful honey. Of course it is a little to the detriment of the smoke, although it will take the aspect of tobacco in this case, the clan kind.

Finale: Chocolate, on raisins. Roasting notes, slightly drier, always with this old wood. Smoke, ash, but it stays soft. However this aspect will be growing, which is the little cherry on the cake for me.

Scent: Scratching! This is fried bacon, pepper beef steak..to be ready for bbq. Fantastic!

Taste: sweet, with soft spices, still fleshy. happy green spices, celery, pepper, brown sugar ... i say this marinade. Cool smoke. It's quite special. But where's the fleshy taste? Anyway, just enjoy it. It's a 5-year-old whisky, an undervalued distiller, and yet a masterpiece. I haven't even drank like that, it's completely unique. So far, I thought it was only a bourbon to come up with a hearty bbq, that's what it was, came. I can't imagine a more perfect malt beside a bbq.

Fair young Ardmore, peat and sherry together are great.

    Nose
Funky; an almost meaty nose, with wet flannel, musk, a hint of smoke and then Bolst’s curry powder, some dried coconut and peachy fruit. The curried note continues when water is added – more coriander and mustard seed, then prune, violet and liquorice root. The funky element now glances towards goat curry. Filthy, but lovely.
    Palate
A very slick, almost oily start that then turns around and introduces red cherry and a touch of bite as the alcohol bares its teeth. That almost meaty/leathery funkiness is still there alongside more fig fruit. Water imposes a certain degree of control, adding a slinky quality while not losing the oiliness, and adding more date fruit. The smoke hangs around behind the bike sheds.
    Finish
Long and belying its age. Slightly drying.
    Conclusion
An astonishing young dram from Asta Morris, which seems to specialise in this sort of thing. You do occasionally sense that the cask is almost forcibly pulling the spirit out, like a child from its warm bed – but it works.

Initially smoke and peat dominate, but soon the sherry notes take over, and smoke moves to the background. This is a very nice and interesting combination of peat and sherrycasks, resulting in a very attractive whisky.

Cigarsmoke immediately, and some bonfire smoke. Then lot's of fruity notes, applesirup, prunes, and coffee. Along the way alcohol gets stronger, and chocolate arrives. Some ash on the background.
    • Taste
      89 89
Full sherrynotes now, strong and intense, smoke moves to the background, coffee, prunes, caramel and honey dominate. A little tobacco as well.
    • Finish
      88 88
Still strong, red fruits, tobacco, more smoke influences now. Intense and warming, long finish.
