Nice expression of (most likely) caol ila: Nose - red wood berries (Rasperry, Wood Strawberry, Brombeere) , cinnemon, Orange - together Glühwein on the X-Mas Market (wont happen this year ;) ) menthol, minerals, decent smoke and Cold Bonfire in the back. Mouth sense as the nose but not as much body as expected (Glühwein) + Menthol slight vanilla and add some maritime notes (Salty,) and sourness sour Currant rather than lemon...Finish. Pepper, espresso aftertaste, Ashtray, Smoke stays for a bit...Nice single cask for a fair price (think i paid around 60 for that) - looses in taste and finish compared to the nose as so many bottlings do. Too much water will ruin it imo so be careful.

After more than 2 yrs open / 1/4 left - amore room for the destilate: This could really be ardbeg and a clear message how hard it is to get this spirit in full balance with heavy red wine.

The nose is characterized by a wonderful combination of mineral smoke and sweet fruit flavors and whets the appetite for more. In terms of taste, this filling will disappoint me a little, unfortunately there are no more sweet fruit flavors of the nose. Slowly I get used to the dark aromas and slowly find pleasure in this malt. A fierce, smoky entry into this year's Advent calendar ....
    • Nose
Soft pink shimmers in the malt, while powerful sweet smoke rises from the Premium Snifter, oily "legs" stick to the glass wall and flow back into the glass relatively quickly. Dominant dissolve mineral smoke and peat from a sweet fruit note, caramelized sugar and a hint of vanilla show up. Minimal come grapes, cherries and strawberries to advantage, the gentle smoke but almost all other flavors. The nose is slightly greasy and oily, now comes the sweet fruit note again powerful. Ash, embers, minimally burned wood, smoke and beguiling sweetness invite you to the first sip.
    • Taste
Powerful and subtly bitter heavy smoke hits the tongue. Tart fruit flavors play with bitter wood effects, cold smoke is supported by a strong alcohol content, the first impression is dark and gloomy. At the second sip then caramelized sugar, red berries, sour cherries and heavy smoke come to bear and immediately stimulate the salivation. A pinch of cinnamon sticks to the palate, walnuts release grapes and berries, caramel and dark wood tones dominate the taste at the moment.
    • Finish
The dark wood tones on the palate are tart and discreetly bitter, smoke and peat entwine dark fruits, old walnuts swim in the saliva under the tongue. For a long time, the gloomy and austere overall impression will be remembered.

    BLIND TASTING

N: Muffiness, some cowshed, wine notes, most likely red wine notes or a very dry sweet wine. Fresh, smoky and summery light.
M: Red wine notes, dryness, a bit ashy. Cretaceous bitterness. Quite elegant in the mouth, no cowbud can be felt here. The sweetness is discreet. In the whole very harmonious. Moderate smoke.
A: Dry finish with ashen sweetness that lasts long.
Conclusion: I like it. Especially the nose is interesting and rich in contrast. Nice start to the advent calendar. From me today 87 points
Tip: Due to the existing mustiness, I type on a Ledaig or possibly Caol Ila from a red wine barrel. 7-11 years. about 58%

    [Blind tasting notes]

Guess: Caol Ila with wine cask influence
    • Nose
      81 81
Huge (coastal / maritime) peat blast with prominent earthy and vegetal aspects. Farmy, with perhaps a hint of sherry or wine. Fragrant, but fairly young.
    • Taste
      81 81
Vegetable bouillon, root vegetables, umami, sweet caramel, and acrid, young peat smoke.
    • Finish
      76 76
Long (due to the smoke) but pretty hot.

He stands in golden yellow color and is allowed to breathe once. Maybe my eyes will deceive me, but I recognize a reddish glow. -> maybe a red wine finish?

In the nose immediately makes a musty cowshed wide, which must be right on the sea. Because a maritime character is also present for me. After some rest, the stable disappears and the salty sea air prevails.

The alcohol, estimated 50-55%, is very well integrated. The oral cavity fills with a warming feeling. The longer the whisky stays in the mouth, the more a fruit compote pushes forwards.

The departure is unfortunately the weakest part for me. A musty taste remains and lays like a fur (like a dry red wine) on the tongue. The fruit is gone again.
