Perfectly balanced, good complexity, medium depth. There could be more of the "certain something".

Wow!! 90s bourbon Springbank! What else can I say but, another, please?
I did this head to head with Master of Malt 26yr ex-bourbon.
MOM bottling showed significant higher signs of fruit syrup, peaches, and apricot, less minerality, and thinner on the palate. Of course, the ABV 43.4 vs 48 will do that to a whisky.
TWA ahead, a whole point even.
    • Nose
      93 93
This leans more on the mineral side, but with the perfect balance of sweetness and complexity that I've come to experience from 26yr VB & Master of Malt 26yr, both ex-bourbon.
Chalk and wax on that nose, hints of tropical fruit, underripe pineapples, candied ginger, sweet balsamico with honey mustard. Lemon drop candy, whiffs of polish, and lacquer.
Complex, can I pull more things out, sure, but you get the point.
    • Taste
      93 93
Sugar lemon on arrival, and straight into limestone, chalk, paraffin texture, oily, sweet balsamic.
    • Finish
      92 92
Salty, wood spice, oak, ginger, and herbal bitters. The finish is long, beautiful balance from nose to finish. Another solid 90s bourbon single cask. 93pts, shame there isn't more of this.

  5. Calmar scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

A rather interesting specimen, a very wide palette of derivatives, a complex composition with a different nose / taste / finish at the beginning and a gradual merging into a single picture in development, of the minuses - lack of depth and a fairly standard wood-grain profile at the base.
    • Nose
Open, moist, woody-herbal notes, lemon peel, lime, sour mineral tones, floral-lollipop tones, dry white wine, uncoated tablets, industrial textiles.
    • Taste
Calm, dense, tart oak notes, sweet creamy shades, young bark, nuts, lemon zest, grain, the lightest shades of peat and smoke, mineral-industrial motifs, machine oil.
    • Finish
Spicy, refreshing, oak, light peat notes, acidic mineral-metallic shades, ash, fresh grassy tones, leather goods, tobacco, light peat motifs.

Wow, goodbye to regular paragraphs 21 and 25.
    • Nose
Pour the wine and smell the fragrance, as if opening a cake box decorated with petals. The aroma of honey and frosting is blowing on the face. The fresh cream sent is sprinkled with a little peach, lemon and candied fruit, and then turned into Genting's iconic beeswax , Salt, chalky soil, citrus fruit peel oil, and finally a small amount of baked woody spices, allspice, wood chips, fresh fragrant leaves.

The overall warmth and oiliness are similar to the mixture of springbank 21yo 2017 and Clynelish SR, but the flavor is more intense.
    • Taste
Full, strong, high fat, a little sweet, no acid, no astringency, a little salt, no bitterness, no spicy.

Palate: Beeswax, solid animal fats, honey, Rosaceae drupe, ginkgo, shredded ginger, salt, white pepper, slightly tail oak.

The fruit taste is relatively light, probably a refilled bourbon bucket?
    • Finish
Long, oaky, beeswax, white pepper, citrus peel.

Very balanced, no flaw, very drinkable and enjoyable!
Head to head with the Reifferscheid bottling I would say this one is a bit rounder and more balanced and the Reifferscheid has a bit more greenish notes.
    • Nose
      93 93
Honey, minerals, limestone, little citric, green and yellow fruits - very good!
    • Taste
      94 94
Very very creamy, mellow, sirupy, subtle sweetness, fruity, peaches, ginger, little pepper, little oak wood - great!
    • Finish
      92 92
Long, warm, still fruity, little zesty, hints of grapefruits
