This Ledaig from Tobermory Distillery is a really smoky and complex malt that could have come from the Isle of Islay. Ledaig means "safe harbour". The new bottling of Ledaig was bottled at a higher alcohol content by Burn Stewart. 12-year-old Bunnahabhain and 10-year-old Tobermory also experienced this upgrade.

I like Ledaig. It has an very identity with a very recognizable character. I’ve had several IB’s and also a few different of these 10 year olds.
    • Nose
Typical Ledaig! Ham&cheese saltines, smoked Italian ham, a very farmy peat and green unripe fruits like green apple and kiwi. After a while more fresh flavors start to develop. Citrus freshness I’d say.
    • Taste
Ground pepper mix, again farmy and savory notes. Old cheese and again bbqed meat. It reminds me of ham on the bone from the bbq. Very pleasant and friendly but also intense and outspoken.
    • Finish
Peaty, peppery and dirt like. Lots of smoked meat influence again. This dram ends with some kind of rubber like flavors.
I love it how this smoked ham kind of flavors are present in all parts of this dram.

A very nice renewed meeting! Certainly a whisky that I would buy again.

    Sample testing.

Creamy nose, vanilla, almond paste and rubber. A touch of green apple maybe ?

Spicier and dirtier in mouth : pepper, clove and more rubber. The cremy notes are there, but definitely in the background.

Finish is medium to long and quite explosive, smoke and cold ashes.

Simple and straightforward but delivers without flows. Pricewise it's excellent. I'm very curious about other bottlings now and would absolutely consider this as a daily drinker. 7/10

Simple and so bad in the good ways.
    • Nose
Oh that's Ledaig all right, it's a straight to the point. Very direct, very straight forward and its diiiirty!
Engine oil, petrol, some varnish and without a doubt a touch of sulphur. Some honey sweetness and some touches of floral notes.
    • Taste
The sulphur and gasoline notes are there, its thick and powerful. Oily, fatty with some lemony and sweet notes.
    • Finish
Finish is medium to short, it's a soft and pleasant.

Aroma: open, bright, the first wave of ash-wood aromas with a slight sour citrus candy. Then there is a sweet caramel “sweet mint” chewing gum, a braised fire, charred wood, rubber, a Soviet rubber band, to which is added a light citrus sweetness of an orange.

Taste: sweet pepper, caramel, lollipops, red pepper witch, brightly dried citrus peel, candied orange, smoked meats, baked potatoes, ash, rubber, slightly menthol, deliciously tannic

Finish: longer than medium, mineral ash, zest, light caramel sweetness, echoes of red pepper, distinctly salty.

    Rating: 86

Bottom line: an excellent ten player playing on an Ilay field, which has its own individuality in the form of rubber and rubber. Absolutely not inferior to their same Aylovskim peers, maybe even surpasses some ...
After the discovery, the fragrance smacked youthful notes of a pet, but fortunately after 1/3 of a bottle they happily left.

    Ledgaig 10 WID: 123435
    Abv. 46.3%
Nose: surprisingly strong smoke with a true phenolic note, a little kelp, but without the other maritime notes, green grass,
Taste: the strong makes for a typical sweetness in taste and the good 46% carry the whisky good on the palate, fresh greased leather, quite one-dimensional but really delicious
Finish: quite short for a smoker and with a nice herbal component
Conclusion: For the money really great, but not so great that you need a bottle directly.
