Quite interesting and complex for such a young age. Especially these heather and softwood components are special and unique. So potential is quite there. Only the nose did not like me at all.
    • Nose
      78 78
Short wine note, then shoots one of the alcohol in the nose. The short wine note disappears completely and gives way to a grassy heather note, already in the direction of hay. Strong Essignoten make themselves wide. Likewise a certain salinity.
With water, the strong alcohol and heather notes noticeably decrease. The vinegar and wine notes remain. Very complex, but mostly no positive grades. The salt note can convince.
The whisky needs a lot of time. At least 20-30 minutes.
Then the sharp alcohol and Essigaromen disappear noticeably and the whisky is better.
    • Taste

Sweet. This reminds me very much of coniferous honey. In addition, something in the direction of wine gum, a little spice and a little heather.
    • Finish
      84 84
Lavender and coniferous forest. And a lot of it.
Short to medium-long finish. In addition there is lemon and of course some heather.

Great value dram but very cask influenced.
    • Nose
      90 90
Sweet wine gums, pie crust and vanilla custard.
    • Taste
      89 89
Peach, peach cobbler and peach sweets.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium long with cooked orchard fruits and a hint of bitterness.

It smells pleasant sometimes, malt, cinnamon, canned peach, fresh wood. Passion fruit and lime juice afterwards, then a young mash note. With a lot of water: Take a short swim, recover after a while to an almost Irish note of grain, elderflower and passion fruit, star fruit, lime juice, a little water mint. A lot of malt in the mouth, porridge with a little passion fruit, oak, some earth, elderflower. A bit short at the back, relatively thin, oak, short apple, bye.

A promise of intense fruitiness in the nose that the rest of the world cannot keep. Material with potential, for 60 € I would rather recommend an Irishman.

My second Cotswolds whisky, and I've enjoyed both - a distillery to watch.

Worth noting that this one loves the outdoors, which lends a distinct exotic fruit note (tinned pineapple) to the finish.
    • Nose
      87 87
Very fruity - freshly cut peaches and sugar syrup, whilst the malt starts to cut through after a couple of minutes. More fruits then appear, suggestions of banana and strawberry, followed by leaf mulch. Adding water sends it into its shell initially, then brings sheep's wool and berry compote with a flinty edge. More water gives delicate florals (dandelion) and, bizarrely, anchovies preserved in chilli oil, which I haven't smelt in 20 years!
    • Taste
      83 83
Less convincing and complex than the nose, with a minor artificial note at first, before recovering equilibrium. Pretty closed off at full strength, and even with water it's less sweet than expected, remaining a bit vegetal and austere for the first 30mins before improving. The mouthfeel is a little light for cask strength, but it is very young. Slightly distracting bitterness.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium, balanced, sweeter again on milk chocolate, with sticky toffee in the aftertaste.

Interesting malt: complex on the nose. With water it goes in the wrong direction for me. Extremely alcoholic heat without water ... well, it's also a very young malt.
Relatively little of the aromas remains in the taste. The finish is very, very short.
Interesting experience, but you don't necessarily need a whole bottle ... get a sample first!
    • Nose
very closed at first, then the alcohol is very present.
Something sweet (cotton candy, caramel, honey) rises in the nose. A heather aroma in the background.
I also have a wine gum note (red berries / red grapes) in the aroma.
After some time with air, a certain spice is added, reminiscent of white pepper / ginger heat.
In any case, it can handle more than just a few drops of water. Then the background heather becomes a distinct and powerful aroma.
Water gives the malt a "greenish" touch, reminiscent of something vegetative and slightly earthy; the more water, the stronger the note of eucalyptus and pine cones. He's heading in the wrong direction for me.
    • Taste
very soft at first, but the alcohol sharpness builds up immediately and covers the tongue. Behind this again this wine gum note and heather aroma.
The second sip with more water (diluted down to approx. 50%): honey, wort builds up stronger and slides out of the mouth, the malt "burns" down the eating tube.
    • Finish
it gets very dry and is quite short.

C: The fruity milkiness of earliest releases is still present but this has evolved away from the more overt 70[STR]/30[bourbon] cask-matured style. Cotswold’s have reduced the ratio to around 50/50 at least, and are beginning to see a more savoury minerality.

    Tasted in the living room.

A little closed and sweet on the nose, it needs a little water to reveal its fruity and minty side.
On the palate, it's explosive, fruity, greedy, almost exotic.
Finale rich in bright spices, very honeyed.

Enthusiasm 4/5 (except the nose without water: 2/5, but the tasting context did not encourage patience)
