  1. Bomshanka scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Speyburn has recently upped their game and are putting out whisky at 46% abv and non-chill filtered, and mostly with age statements as well. This new 16 year old is no exception and it comes in a generous 1 liter bottle and can be found at very reasonable prices in certain travel retail outlets.

    Colour warm gold (E150a).
Not terribly oily with thin fast legs.
    • Nose
      86 86
Honey, freshly cut oak wood, yeasty dough, then some fruit appear, citrus, green apples, peach, melon and finally a slight hint of anise. After a bit in the glass floral notes begin to appear.
    • Taste
      85 85
Creamy sweet honey and lemon custard. Bit of bread underneath with some dried banana, apple and apricot. A slight undertone of something anisey, licorishy, but doused in honey and then a bit of pepper and chili with a mineralic component.
    • Finish
      83 83
Sweetly drying towards spices and slight oaky influence. Medium in length.

All in all a well made, pleasant if not very spectacular, every day sipper.
